CUTS ON ENVIORNMENTAL SURFACES

Hi, I have just a few questions about HCV. I have developed quite the fear of it over the past few months. I have a tendency to nick myself and get cuts on weights at the gym, or if i've consumed alcohol I will sometimes get cuts. For example about a week ago I was drinking and fell I cut my hip on the concrete driveway, and my finger on some glass. It was visibly bleeding and because I had been drinking I did not get a chance to cover it with a band aid. My questions are these -

1. Can/What is the probability of contracting hep c through environmental cuts. Such as cutting yourself on weights, or falling and getting a cut on the ground. Just environmental wounds in general... such as a deep finger wound from a knife or sharp piece of glass or metal.

2. I had a bleeding cuticle while I was out, I shook a lot of peoples hands and am wondering if shaking hands with open wounds is a big risk for contracting hep c. (if they had a bleeding wound too)

3. I've never used IV Drugs, or had any major exposures to what normally transmits HCV. Are my fears irrational?

THANKS SO MUCH! Just really worried, and would like to know the answers to these questions as I am obsessive compulsive.

Only two things need to be said here.

Continue to get help for your obsessive thoughts and stop getting "fall down" drunk.

Did it ever occur to you that if you stop drinking it might ease the obsessive thoughts?

Best of luck to you

You post your "worrisome" concerns amongst those who've actually been diagnosed.  You go on further to suggest that you are so carefree that these issue's come about because you are drinking alcohol. I see your post as a slap in the face to those who are trying to heal and/or maintain their livers.

So, reflect on that and start wondering if maybe you're a rude and insensitive person who's unlikely to ever be happy in life.  You want something that you can actually do something about - start there.

I was not trying to offend anyone. I am getting help for my obsessive thoughts... I just wanted an opinion on these questions. I appreciate your responses, as I am assuming that I am being irrational. I just don't know the facts about this disease when it comes to transmission. That is what I am trying to find out. Some doctors say that razors and open wounds are close to zero risks, others don't. Just looking for some information.

Thank you!

People with Hep C are sick,it's a serious illness.  We do not deserve to be subjected to the constant barrage of questions from people with "problems" . If you want to know if you have Hep C get tested for it.  If you don't get tested you are just looking for some sick form of entertainment.
