i hear you jim & dd, i'm going through the metabolic thing as well, lipids, belly fat, etc. it seems the more i exercise & eat right i still cant lose the belly fat! my body temp is usually 96-97 and i thought it had something to do with the HCV and after reading some things i really believe it now. i came across the article about the metabolic affect with low body temp and it fit me to a tee. this all has to fit together somehow and the more i educate myself the more sense it is starting to make.
PS, LOL jim that is funny about having a smaller belly then the docs, how true. they must be getting fat off the money they get from the pharm companies. you would think after all the fatty liver they have diagnosed that they would eat right.......
I have noted the low temperatures for several years now. Mine is usually in the 97 to 97.5 range. I attribute it to the interferon autoimmune effect, and I believe there is correlation. Also, I have read that some with HCV alone seem to have low body temps. Maybe that is due to the immune system problems that HCV causes in some, usually sympromatic, individuals. Any way you look at it, the body tem problem seems to go hand in hand with this whole metabolic change process. When I feel the worst these days, as if I have a virus or something, that's usually when my body temp is lowest! Sometimes all the way down to high 96 range. Again, I really think there is a connection to autoimmunity. I will do some searches to see what the research says about AI and body temp.
Cheers!

If low body temp indicates a low metabolism, thereby causing weight gain, maybe that's why I put on 15 lbs. during my 40s and 50s. I used to always have a 98.6 temperature, no weight problem, size 8. In middle age this seemed to drop down to an average of temp of 97, and the pounds followed. Interesting, huh?
Although muscle weighs more than fat, it can't make you weigh more than you did. When gained muscle replaces fat, your weight remains the same but you become smaller -- at least with women this is true. Since guys bulk up, perhaps this is different for them. But the only time I've ever gained weight from exercising, it's been alievated by a good sit on the can.
97.5 as of this morning, however I don't think it unusual for my temp to be a little on the low side. What is unusual is the difficulty I'm having lately in losing weight and its distribution on my midriff. The problem is that I'm still more fit and probably have less belly fat than the doctors I see who are 10-20 years younger, so not sure how seriously they will take this. What they will take seriously, however, is my bad lipid profile.

nygirl, congrats on the very good test results. when will you have the pcr test back?
jim, what is your average body temp. every 1 degree of a low body temp can affect your metabolisom by 14%. i thought of you right after i read this. i know you are having trouble with your weight even though you are doing everything right with excerise & diet.
hahahaha wise guy! ;)
I do WORK all day long here in between frantic posts you know!
The NP isn't in today of COURSE so I asked the lady to just print up and send my CBC, TSH and junk. I'm waiting now.....
Wishing so much it was my TMA - if it comes up UND I am going to have to ask the doc to change the stupid test. What a bozo he is to not even THINK of it you know?
Now...........back to AI ;)
Whoops. Posted on the wrong side. Better go look for her at the "American Idol" thread. LOL.
