I've read that the Hep C virus can affect every major organ - could it cause brain lesions ?
so if you have cirrhosis of the liver, that can damage your brain, which would be an end result of hepc.
Just to clarify (getting old)  - the brain can be damaged by cirrhosis of the liver however if that wasn't present the Hep C virus alone wouldn't cause brain lesions ?

yes.

but - unlike the renal system, which appears to be damaged at a separate rate from the liver, and can become damaged by hepc before damage to the liver is apparent, damage to the brain by hepc appears to be via the liver.

so if you have cirrhosis of the liver, that can damage your brain, which would be an end result of hepc.

just to mention this as well, in coinfection with hiv, when hcv replicates in the brain, it appears to cause actual long term problems with cognition that seems to be tied to the future function (or dysfunction) of neurotransmitters - this is not noticed in folks who are not co-infected.
