Can I have an occasional glass of wine and beer

Can I have an occasional glass of wine and beer

Is having a glass of wine or two a day going to be a problem ? I have just being diagnosed with hep c type 1A , doctor says no liver damage , however he advised me not to drink at all.

My viral load is 1,650,000 iU/ml , if i was to have a drink would this increase the risk of the load increasing. I apologise if i seem ignorant , however i do need some clarity.

Drinking with HCV is defenitely not advisible, it just sppeds up the progression of Fibrosis. It's not worth it friend. Without a Liver biopsy there is no way of determining degree of damage. Have you had a biopsy? Regardless drinking is not a wise thing to do.

Really, when the doctor says no drinking they mean it.  I wish I had realized that a long time ago.  I was told not to drink when I was 21 cuz I had hep then,  I ended up OK really very little liver damage and I was a social drinker.
But now that I look back that was very good information, I would have had to find something else to do, some other way of looking at the world,
I guess its OK to have a few drinks, NOT WITH HEP C, and frankly i think its a huge escape

As Boobert has said ,alcohol is like pouring gas on the fire with HCV. I t has been proven that even moderate amounts of alcohol can speed up time of liver damage(fibrosis and increase the likelihood of developing  (HCC) liver cancer..

What happens currently with your viral load isn't that important  in regards to liver damage however it has also been shown alcohol will help the virus to replicate.

Maybe a good time to rethink the couple of beers a day.

Good luck ...and welcome

i have heard doctors & other members here describe it as pouring gas on a fire. Hep C loves alcohol. It weakens the liver so the hep can do its damage much easier.

good luck
