Hi Suzy
Thanks so much for the follow-up.
I'm happy everything worked out in the end.

Just thought I'd comment to let you know. You were right. Results were negative:)
Agree with the thread, you have nothing to worry about, unless you have an extremely "adventurous" sex life. I am Hep C positive (hopefully not for long as under treatment!) and my wife of 10 years is fine.
Would actually start focusing on your husband, and determining the damage to his liver, ensuring he lives a healthy lifestyle, support getting access to new treatment and get ready to deal with your insurance company.
This is a good time for Hep C as revolutionary drugs (Sovaldi/Olysio) have extremely high cure rates with minimal side effects. Unfortunately they are ridiculously expensive now, but prices should drop substantially as new competing drugs come online and Big Pharma make a return on their investment back....
Don't worry and good luck to your husband
I was the one with HepC, and just found out last fall that I had it, but have had it for probably 34+ years, and neither my husband of 30 years nor my daughter have it. It really is pretty hard to get. My husband was a long time blood donor too, and he never came back positive. You are probably fine.
Thanks. I feel better knowing it's highly unlikely. I still want to know for certain, but at least I can relax for now. I don't know much about hep c. When my husband told me I pretty much thought it was a death sentence. Glad to know there are treatments and even cures out there.
Hiya please dont worry my hubby probably had hepc for 30 odd yrs before he knew he had it i tested for peace of mind and yes it came back negative and i am darn sure yours will be too. Best to the both of you. Love Jules x
Just an additional comment for you.
I was married for 20 years and had 2 children with my husband.
Had no idea that I was infected with the Hep C virus, and just learned of it recently.
My husband and children did NOT become infected.
As Hector has said, please don't worry as you will be negative.

Hepatitis C is not an STD. The virus is most commonly transmitted through blood. The blood of the infected person being mixed with the blood of an unaffected person. That is why the most commonly method of transmission is through IV drug use, where the injection paraphernalia is shared between two people and their is an exchange of blood.
It is extremely rare to be infected with hepatitis C sexually especially in monogumous hetero sexual couples. Many heterosexuals couples have been together for 10-20 years with one partner unknowingly having hepatitis C, and the other never being infected.
I recent study showed the the rate of transmission in monogamous couples is very low, 0.07% per year which is equal to about 1 in 19, 000 sexual encounters.

"Sex between monogamous heterosexuals rarely source of hepatitis C infection"
"Individuals infected by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) have nothing to fear from sex in a monogamous, heterosexual relationship. Transmission of HCV from an infected partner during sex is rare according to new research published in the March issue of Hepatology, a journal published by Wiley on behalf of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).
"The maximum incidence rate of HCV transmission by sex was 0.07% per year or roughly 1 per 190,000 sexual contacts that researchers based upon 8377 person-years of follow-up. The team did not identify any specific sexual practices linked to HCV infections among the couples. "Our study provides clinicians with important information for counseling chronic HCV patients in long-term sexual relationships, supporting the current recommendations that couples not change their sexual practices if they are in a monogamous heterosexual relationship," concludes Dr. Terrault."
So don't worry. You can relax. Your blood test will show you are not infected.
Take care!
