Prognosis of cirrhosis

Patients with early cirrhosis (CPT Class A) from hepatitis C infection who have no complications from cirrhosis have an excellent prognosis. Even without treating the hepatitis C infection, 10 years after diagnosing cirrhosis the majority (>75%) continue to do well with no liver-related complications ([6]). It is believed that treatment of the hepatitis C with interferon will provide an even better prognosis.

Do liver docs use this when determining if you need treatment?

It’s difficult to know whether this formatted correctly or not; it is probably easier to read the original, Ron.

The Child-Pugh scale is used to apply a stage to cirrhosis; but it’s hard to determine what’s what from this. If you are Child-class A, that’s considered compensated cirrhosis; and you should be able to undergo treatment based on that alone; Child-class B and C might be a problem.

Have you previously been diagnosed with cirrhosis?
