Chron,s/ Hep C

I not only suffer from hep c, but have chron's disease.I'm in a pickle because the meds they are using for my chron's are raising some of my liver enzymes.I have the lowest geno type,I am currently in the beginning of cirrhosis. My doctor does'nt seem to know what to do with me. I am just wondering if there are many people out there who might have some insight on where I am going from here.I have absess, ulcers, swelling in small and large intestines, Ulcerations {multipal} in my esophagus, Now I have leisions on my thyroid. Three years ago I had 18in. of my colon removed. Other than more surgery, How would you treat someone like me? I am taking:pentasa, imuran, prednison, lipitor, prilosec, somas, vicodin, ativan and benadryl for sleep. thanks for any info you can give me  Norgie

I also have both Crohn's and Hep C.  I was on Imuran as well and had to be taken off due to elevated LFT's.  It was better with mercaptopurine (6mp), but I could only take a very low dose.  I am sure you have tried all different kinds of meds before having surgery on your colon, but maybe it's time to get a second opinion.  My gastroenterologist and hepatologist work together to ensure my meds are being monitored closely.  Best of luck!

Here is some of what this link says

Another type of secondary fatty liver disease is unrelated to other specific liver diseases. In these cases, the accumulation of liver fat is due to disturbances in the body's processing (metabolism) of fat (lipid) rather than to direct injury to the liver cells. Such causes include certain drugs (e.g., prednisone), some gastrointestinal operations (bariatric surgery) for obesity, malnutrition, and genetic defects in proteins that process (metabolize) lipids. As described below, all of the secondary causes of fatty liver disease must be ruled out before attempting to establish the diagnosis of NAFLD. This is why NAFLD is considered a diagnosis of exclusion.

I am sorry that no one has answered your posting but we are only patients here, not doctors.  I haven't heard of anyone battling the same combination of diseases you are and have no advice for you unfortunately.  I wish you well and hope you find some answers.
