Clemizole plus protease inhibitors effective. Off Label?

Clemizole plus protease inhibitors effective. Off Label?

Clemizole, an old, approved antihistamine, has been shown to have synergistic effects when combined with protease inhibitors.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=clemizole%20is%20highly%20synergistic%20with%20HCV%20protease

If i read correctly, the paper indicates that Clemizole/PI may be more potent against GT 2 rather than GT 1, however at a higher concentration it is also effective against GT 1.

As this drug has been approved for use several years ago, and should be available commercially, the question has to come up....  can it be used off label with one of the protease inhibitors currently on the market to boost SVR results until something better comes along? It might make a BIG difference to those null responders willing to go onto a PI but afraid of breakthrough/resistance.
