Coffee may double your chances for clearing Hep C

Coffee whether decaf or regular may increase your odds of beating Hep C.  The newest study  just published yesterday suggests that coffee not only benefits your likelyhood of beating this virus, it also decreases the risk of
liver cancer and fibrosis.  In the past the emphasis was caffeine was the determining factor but new research disproves this finding.  More research is underway but it appears an intrinsic component in coffee found in decaf and regular creates this positive environment. You must consume 3 cups or more daily.  Decaf seemed to achieve an overall greater benefit without giving you the jitters.

Hi the first time I treated the hepatologist told me to cut out coffee. I asked his PA who was much easier to talk to and he said it was because the medication dehydrated us so much that the additional coffee could cause problems as that dehydrates.  He just told me to make sure I drank more water.
In hindsight I wonder if that is why I had such muscle pain the first time I treated, because I was dehydrated.

Good luck everyone :)

I've been drinking gobs of it in the morning for years. They actually came out with a study years ago, saying that it would help to slow fibrosis down and may even prevent progressing to cirrhosis.  I can't really drink it all day though because of the diuretic effect it has on me.  Makes me have to run to bathroom all day and night if I don't just drink it in the am.   I also drink a mug of decaf green tea every day, mid-day.  Susan400

I know that this Coffee Story has been splashed all over the news today in regard to Decaf Coffee and Liver Disease.  Decided to do some additional investigation on my own and one of my sources was the American Cancer Society funding of liver disease.
Wonder if the limitation of Coffee was because of Caffiene?  We do know that Caffiene does play a part in certain cardiovascular diseases.  Hep C meds can cause tachycardia as well as  arrhythmia's and could be contraindicated with Caffiene.
Would say, you need to follow your Hepas advice, but perhaps keep in mind once you clear enjoy the benefits of coffee.  I for one don't drink it and live on green tea, but if I can avoid liver cancer with coffee, I'm all over it.
Take care

Thanks Sandi. I didn't think about dehydration and have been chugging the coffee down cause I know it's good overall for you, but this makes sense. Actually, I only drink 2 cups a day but think I'll go back to 1.

Gilead recommends that coffee, tea and soda be limited while on Tx because these things will dehydrate you more. I think the coffee study was just for liver health in general. While on Tx I had only 1 cup of coffee in the morning, and that was about it except for water.
