Cold sweats, and other lovely side effects

by Fubarcat, Jan 28, 2004 12:00AM
Has anyone suffered a sudden onset of "sweats" first thing in the a.m.?  Also, I have welts at injection site that just don't go away.  The raised welt goes down, but the redness remains from even my first shot (I get #4 tomorrow night).  Other than that, my side effects have been minimal w/only body aches, fatigue and hair loss.  All are manageable so far without any medication other than Tylenol two hours prior to injection.  Thanks for any comments.

When you give your injection, leave the needle in 1 min., then pull it out quickly and use your gauze to rub the sight a couple min.. The med. is made to break down cells and if you let a drop or leave a drop,it can break down skin cells and cause sores.

Listen to this, all my injections (3) at the time, have never given me a reaction at the injection site....but two weeks later my first injection site is raised and looks like a welt, my second site is the same way 2 weeks later also.  So far, you cannot see the one I injected last Friday. They swell, turn red, itch a little then seem to almost disappear.  Then, voila..they are back.  What's up with that???  Also the first one sometimes looks like my skin is darkening lately.  I thought I was losing my mind!!  LOL!!

I had sweats so bad that my sheets were wet in the moerning but it stopped after a few weeks.
I found the red spots wouldn't go away no matter what I advice I tried until I switched from stomach area to my legs.
I think I could now throw the needle like a dart bounce it off the mirror and still get it right. Just kidding although I think I will save empty shots #47 and #48 to throw at the doctor and insuance rep, this I am serious about after all the grief I have been through lately with them.

My husband is on Tx and has exactly the same side effects that you do. He suffered the sweats his first injection. He´s just done his fourth round and things have gotten better. He gets permenant red marks too at injection site, we didn´t know about leaving the needle in for at least a minute.

So I guess what you´re going through is part of the routine.

That was quite a visual to imagine! Thanks for the laugh.

I still have sweats after 5 weeks after finishing tx.
I thought it might be from the AD which I hate. I still couldn't accept that tx has done so much with my brain.

i get night sweats the night of the injection and the night after.....soaking wet........Yes, leave the needle in for a few seconds......i cant wait a min........and wipe area and massage the area.......i just get a little bruise on my leg....but on my tummy area it leaves a red area that slowing goes away  5/48

If you read my update I just posted above you will see I believe a lot of problems ( insomnia, high blood pressure lack of ambition) are from AD's. Why do the docs push them so hard but neglect to tell us of how bad sides and withdrawal can be for some of us even if you do it slowly. I'm starting to feel like my old self again. Don't get me wrong the tx is a bummer but for me I'm begining to feel that the Ad's caused more harm than good. Time will tell. For you I think you need to come over to one of these cold climats and and do the naked polar thing that should snap you out of about anything. hah hah

I am on week 48/60 and I have had injection site red spots since the beginning. It's pretty normal. I do my shots in my stomach. I'm glad to hear your sx are manageable. LL

Yes I have noticed after coming to this board that alot of people are put on ADs before even starting tx.  My dr never mentioned it and I have never had a problem with depression so didn't even think about it.  I would rather wait though and see if it is actually needed before jumping in and taking it.  I think we do have enough as it is with the tx going in our bodies and unless absolute necessary...cut back on other meds.

I have fair, sensitive skin and always had at least 8 visible injection spots at any time.  They would show up about 3 to 5 days after my shots, about the size of a tomato.  They finally went away for good 2 months after I finished tx. As for the sweats, they are common, especially in women at or near menopause.  Are you female or male?

Female, and may be close to menopause (Jeez - that on top of taking meds.  Oh No!).  The sweats only last about 15 minutes, but it's kind of scary.  I guess they will stop soon.  Everything is manageable if I can get rid of this virus in the end!

by Fubarcat, Jan 28, 2004 12:00AM
Thank you all for your helpful comments.  I'll try leaving the needle in as long as I can.  I haven't had the sweats for a couple of days now and when I did have them, they only lasted for about 15 minutes.  It's all relative when I think it's just something I have to go through to finally get healthy again.

by gr8faith, Jan 28, 2004 12:00AM
I have been experiencing night sweats for quite sometime - 5 years, and can relate to the "gotta change the pj's" in the middle of the night but I haven't yet started tx.  I read that night sweats are a symptom of the disease. My thought was that they will go away after the dragon is slayed. Has anyone else experienced the night sweats before tx?  Just wondering.

Still waiting on the liver biopsy results... a week left to go.

Keeping everyone in my prayers.

Fubarcat, I had "the sweats", too - throughout treatment, though not in the morning - just at night. I saw some earlier posts about the low-grade fevers and I had those, too - maybe they're related? I don't know if you're male or female but I'm female and the tx made me go through some incredible hormonal fluctuations, which may have contributed to "the sweats". Who knows? I also had the raised welts from injection - huge round red welts - don't worry, they go away. I pretended I was sporting tattoos. They would last up to two weeks for me. I'm glad to hear you're having minimal sides though, besides those.
Take care!
Kathy

I had night sweats 5 years or more before tx and still having them during tx. One night I woke up and thought a water pipe had broken in my attic, that;s how wet the sheets and my bed was.     HD

I had a Siamese cat named Fubar.  She was the best darned cat in the world.  Gave me 15 years of pure happiness.  Anyway . . . .
I am not a medical expert, but I think your labs look pretty good.  Especially the liver function tests.  Good for you!  Carry on!

hey vick, with your platlettes that 'high'....there is NO WAY you can use that as an excuse to NOT cook or clean darlin.....so get busy....your in great shape!!!!  hahaha....sadly, i can no longer use the excuse of low platlettes for not doing the dishes..or not cleaning...or not getting off the couch..or not doing laundry...or not washing my feet....well, you get the idea....as mine are creeping back up to a comfortable 97.....damn

SWEATS..hummm...well, sounds like my life.....menopause (withOUT hormone replacement) AND treatment, get it all over with at once...as for the guys amoungst you with night sweats....maybe try 'hormone replacement' haha....ah...NO! sorry, all i can say, is you men are in a unique position to better understand one of the things that women go through during menopause...isn't it charming!!  tee hee

opps....thats hemoglobin , not platlettes...that when it is low is our ticket to let everything from dishes to laundry....slide.....mis read your e-mail this morn.  not enough coffee....anything under 6 cups is not note worthy....janis7 has a great site for understanding blood results....and is ACCURATE...unlike ...moi....but you STILL have to do your dishes vicki!!!!

Awwww  Sorry for double posting!  Vicki...your blood work looks good.  Your platelets are a little low though.

oh great....don't give her ANY excuses to NOT cook.....now she'll avoid it by saying her plateltes are low and she better not use sharp insturments...like knives, or cheese graters...or carrot and potatoe peelers....you didn'y RELLY believe the whole thing about the girls telling her that the food was tasting 'bad' did you....she did that on PURPOSE you know, smart girl she is....it justifies TAKE OUT tee hee

I hope you don't mind me shortening your name to "Bdarned", but "befuddledbedarned" is just a little too long (even though it is cute).  Anyway, just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed reading your post.  Thank you for the smile.
