Constipation and annal fissure

im member of HCV forum since 2008. Some people may remember me as im bakc after a longtime. i was SVR. Right after the end of tx in march 2009 i got Acne vulguris. First i ignored it and it became sever with the passage of time. In this november i went to dermatologist who treat me with some antibiotic like minocycline which did not work. Then he gave me isotretinoin 20mg per day for 15days. After 15 days i started feeling severe pain in my right hip joint. I read side effects of isotretinoin and joint pain was mentioned therein. I stopped taking it. Pain got severe and i was unable to move. i went to orthopedic and he took some tests. Urine, X-ray and joint ultrasound was normal but ESR was 28 (0-15) and CRP was positive. He said joint is infected.

he put me on IV antibiotics (oxidil 1 gram twice a day and augmentin 1.2 gram thrice a day for a week) Then on oral antibiotic for 4 weeks (ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice a day with calcium and vit  d-3 alongwith with naproxin sodium). 2 weeks have been passed and 2 left. Pain is gone. im on bed rest. But when i talk feel pain little bit.

Due to long use of antibiotics and NASAIDs im facing severe constipation and annal fissure. im using ispaghol husk and raw veges for relief in constipation but not helping much. What should i do to get rid of constipation. im afraid it will turn into piles etc

I have had issues with constipation since I took a bad fall on my back. I tried everything, the doctor gave me a laxative that worked and then I was plugged again.  He told me to then try Milax and it worked but I just used it to get things going again.  I have Hep C as well and my pharmacist told me Milax doesn't go through the liver, so you are safe with that.  I check everything.  Senna is a herb that is very good for constipation, but if used regularly it can cause liver failure especially if you have a damaged liver to begin with.  If your liver is healthy, there isn't a problem with using it.  That is what is in the Smooth Move Tea, so I stay away from that.  Whenever things start getting too solid I make something with beans; chili, bean soup, vegetable soup with beans and they pretty much take care of it.  Also, if you like sauerkraut, that works well too.  Stay away from cheese.  You can also add flax seed to your rice, your cereal as it is a great natural fiber.  I love prunes, so I munch on them instead of sweets.  If you have started liking the juice, I bet you will like the dried fruit even better.  I also make oatmeal cookies, and put dried fruit including prunes along with coconut and nuts and eating a couple of them a day really helps too.

Remember there are 2 types of fiber.  Soluble and insoluble.  Research that a bit and see if you are getting an adequate amount of the right kind.

Have you had a recent colonoscopy?  That may be needed to see if anything is going on in your colon.

Are you still on the IV antibiotics?  They can either affect your kidneys or liver.  They seem to be quite specific and could be why your liver enzymes are high.  I would think your doctor could explain that to you.  the SGPT does not always indicate a problem with the liver so discuss this with him/her.

That's about all I can offer and hope you feel better and get this taken care of.

Im taking Ispaghol Husk two times a day. having plenty of water and raw veges and fruits. Also taking lactolose but nothing is helping much. It gives me little relief but after that same condition. i face severe pain and little blood at every bowl.

When i was first attacked by HCV in 2003 i faced same kind of constipation alongwith tiredness, weakness. My all tests were normal but SGPT was raised to 100. i was on tx in 2008 for six months and SVRd in September 2009. Since then my SGPT is quite normal. In 2012 it was raised upto 47 and after some days it came back normal itself.

I was doubtful that these long course of antibiotics has affected my liver and today i checked CBC and SGPT. CBC is quite normal but SGPT is at 95 (normal 10-43). I am much afraid and thinking why my SGPT is raised again. Can any body tell that raised SGPT is sign of simply liver damage or Relapse ?

I had the hard stools when treating with PegInf and Riba. At the time I described it like passing a jewel encrusted eggplant. The bung hole wad so sensitized and the payloads so hard and lumpy.

Hi  Prune juice and stool softeners are a good idea.  I hope you can get some relief.  Walking can help get things moving.  Drink water too.

i tried homeopathic but it did'nt work. For last 3 days i have severe pain while bowl movement. Stool is hard at the stard and remaining is soft. Hard stool refreshes the wound and then even soft stool hurts too much. I went to dr today and he have a syrup name suphlac (lactolose)  and a tablet named daflon 500 mg  which contains micronized urified flavonoid fraction. Diosmin 450 mg and hesperidin 500 mg.

Who doesn't love a poop thread? I just look at a tax bill... but now I make sue I'm on the can first. Last time I was at the mailbox and sh!t my pants.

Seriously...go easy on the laxative. Nothing like being all bound up and having a dose of exlax rushing the bull out of the chute too fast. Yowza!

Sorry about your discomfort ...Every pill we take has side effects including the antibiotics.  I'm in agreement with everyone that you should go with the OTC stool softeners not laxatives.  There is a difference.  When I was on chemotherapy my oncologist had me on Senekot S which a stool softener and works like a charm overnight.
Might also add that prune juice is a good idea.  Some people don't like the taste of it so you can instead drink 100% grape juice for equivalent results.
This was suggested by my sons pediatrician for sluggish bowels as he would not drink the prune juice but loved the grape.
Hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, I remember you, welcome back.  Sorry to hear about the issues you're having and I hope things simmer down for you.  The prune juice is a very good idea.  That said, I personally don't know much about antibiotics at all but I know some of them cause diarrhea as one of their side effects.  Ouch!  Hope you get some relief soon.  good luck

Hi I tried to look up side effects for isotretinoin, I found this.  Since you were only on it 15 days I would think that your hip pain is from something else but I am not a doctor.  It does say it can cause some gastro problems.

http://www.rxlist.com/accutane-drug/warnings-precautions.htm

It does sound like you have something serious in order for the doctor to put you on IV antibiotics and and the cipro.
I would call the doctor asap.

i want to discuss with you all my problem. As you know i took 20mg isotretinoin for 15 days and pain started in my right hip joint. Went to Arthopedic and he said it is infection. im now on antibiotics (one week on IV augmenten + oxidil and then on ciprofloxacin 500 twice) for last 5 weeks. Today i suddenly feel same kind of pain in my left groin (front of hip joint) . im wondering if there was infection in right hip joint how can that infection travel to my left joint even im on antibiotics. I think this is not infection but it is muscles pain / weakness. When ever i strech my legs and then walk pain starts and after some rest pain goes away. When i was on isotretinoin i was so much lethargic/fybromyalgia type symptoms, and felt very much tiredness and weakness in my inner sides of thys/legs. I think isotretinoin first make may muscles weak and then pain started. What do you say about it?

Hi there, yes, Miralax is over the counter.  I will look for the name of a probiotic but to start out you could try any one of them that has live cultures, it will say on the bottle.  You can also eat yogurt to help.
Take Care

If you want something that will work quick, in order to get things moving (so that you can start your new prevention plan afterward), I recommend Miralax.  I worked real well, real fast.  It's not something that take 2-3 to work.  I guarantee if you take it at like 8 am at night with 8 oz of liquid (juice or water), you will have results by the AM.   After that, you could use the Prunelax and stool softeners on a regular basis. Take a fiber supplement. I prefer Benefiber because I don't do well with the Metamucil/psyllium.  Make sure you're drinking enough water and getting some sort of physical activity in as much as humanly possible.  Like 5-7 days a week.  I've suffered with this for years and it's very uncomfortable.  Good luck with these suggestions.

I'm with Patra. I'd go with the prunes before trying the otc stuff. They work well.

When I started having problems on tx, I called Dr's Office because didn't want anything which would mess with or or block my meds.  Dr said use Prune Juice.  I used it, and it took care of the problem!  Now, I had to drink an 8 oz glass - that's a lot of prune juice, and  number of calories - but it really worked and you can't get anymore health friendly than that.

I prefer it just slightly cooler than room temperature - don't like it cold, but it goes down easier than I thought.  Now it is a regular (I didn't just say that, did I?) part of my diet - at least 2 or 3 times a week, unless I need it more, and have done it everyday, without problems.

Hope this helps.   Pat

I have constant problems with constipation. Been even worse since I went on the trial for hepc, also I take morphine due to chronic pain from a severe car accident. I use this tea called Smooth Move when I get really bad and also eat theses cookies made by Fiber One. And somewhere in between use Miralax it comes in generic form too. You can google the tea on the net to read up on it before you get it., costs a little of $5.00 for 16 bags. I get the cookies pretty much any supermarket, the tea I get in a super Kroger that has all the specialties items. I have issues with internal hemmoriods which actually makes it painful for me that's when I have to use the internal preparationh  suppositories, they also come generic too. Its a constant battle for me cause I have so many problems with food, I am lactose, corn and wheat intolerant doesn't leave much left to eat, lol. Make sure you google tea cause it does have herbs in it that cause issues if you have certain health problems. I am not a doctor or in the medical field all I can do is make suggestions on what has helped me.

Hello there, if I were you I would try Pericolace
Walmart sells a generic brand from Equate it is generic Colace which is a stool softener and generic Per-Colace which is a laxative/stoof softener.
The two of them together works very well.
I am so sorry to hear of your troubles.  I hope you feel better soon.
You also might want to eat some yogurt and take acidoplhilus and/or probiotic capsules to help your intestinal imbalance from the antibiotics.
Good luck

Wishing you the best
