Converting Eq/mL

by Verdugo, Jun 30, 2007 12:00AM
Can anyone tell me how I would convert 3.12 million Eq/mL into IU/mL?

Thanks,
Verdugo

Hi Verdugo and FIGuy,

I’ve been to Janis before but missed this. Janis & Friends do a great service with straightforward facts. Looking at my VL lab report, its 3,919,685 IU/mL assayed using Roche Cobas Tazman test (1 IU = 2.7 copies). This calcs to 10,583,150 eq/ml (if I’m calcing correctly). The Janis chart is in eq/ml and puts you, Verdugo, at a medium level and me at a high level 8(. The chart might be a bit dated, especially on the UND level. I’ve been stating my VL at 4 million, but I should add the IU/mL other wise I misleading or convert to eq/ml. A 2 log drop is 105,832, this is my top limit to continue tx at 12 weeks. I’m only at week 2 and I’m trying to find any medical support for a 4 week PCR. I’ll have a read through Janis.

Cheers,
Go4SVR

Thanks for pointing me to this site.  It's a good one.  I spent a bunch of time this afternoon trying to convert my old results into IUs.  Drove myself crazy.  AND THEN, I read a disclaimer at the bottom of the report that states that the test that was used may be inaccurate up to 20%!  Thanks anyway.

Cheers,
Verdugo.

The estimate of VL in an ML can vary, even if you had another pcr the same day.  And, keep in mind that you have 5,000 (or so) ml's of blood. So the count is based only on a very small sample. I've always felt that pcr's s are more directional for information purposes, until you hit undetectable
