Genotype 3 here. Hep c forty years. Did 24 weeks solvaldi and 1000mg ribaviran for 24 weeks. Treatment naive. SVR at 12 weeks EOT. Treatment wasn't really so bad. Had most of the side effects but they come and go. 24 weeks seems like a long time at the beginning but time flies. Exercised five times a week, worked, went out with friends, lived my life, never missed a dose, keep busy and don't get discouraged. I tricked myself into liking treatment, took my ribaviran and said "yummy riba, I love this stuff" and even though it sounds stupid it worked. You can do it.
Hi. I too just found out I am G3. I go for an ultrasound on May 4 and hopefully I can talk with the doc about what my options are soon after. If you need someone to talk to about how things are going, you can always message me.
Thank you all for your comments im not sure I will treat again ....
I have to know my quality of life wont be affected...
Pat ,dee always a big help hope Bean is OK also

Hi. I really think a liver friendly diet and hydration, with taking the meds AND eating with each dose of meds helps eith those particular side effects. The water, 1 oz per pound up to 1/2 you body weight every day, will help a lot with the headaches. a small amount if 'good' fat with each dose of Riba not only should help your stomach problems, but bind the Riba so that it processes better.
None of the meals have to be large, just have some yogurt, fruit or veffies, and nuts, egg (s), chicken, or fish ( rhose last two, well cooked) so that you get your protein. Of course, peanut butter is a good choice, too, as it has plenty of lots of protein and good fat
Hope this helps you with some or all of your sides.

I am gt 3 and have been on sov and rib since 3/7/15. I am undetected already however, I do know the real test will be to see if my labs after 6 months of tx will still show svr. My side effects vary from constant headaches to upset stomach and nausea. Nothing serious. Good luck to you all!
I just read elsewhere that Gilead has a new drug in trials that should be out toward the end of the year. It's for GT 3 and is Sovaldi with the new drug - GS5816.
The odds of reaching SVR are over 90% with this new drug.
Take care.
Hi i am gt3 12 svr to tx sovaldi n riba 12 weeks also cirhoticl
Pat, you are such a cheerleader. I love it!
AWM: Excellent article. Thank you for sharing. Looks like Gilear, BRISTOL-Myers, Squibb AND AbbVie are all going at this genotype. Didn't someone say that Daclatasvir is back at FDA for approval to be used im conjunction with Sofosbuvir (Daklinza and Sovaldi) and decision is expected in June? Always good to hear.
Rangle, it might be well to hang in there a few more months for one of these that are in trials now, and not have to face PegInterferon (all Inf is nasty stuff). You can help your liver by not drinking alcohol, smoking, using illegal drugs, and many prescription and O-t- C meds that hurt the liver, drinking Lots of water, and eating liver friendly, until one or more of the above is available as we are talking months here.
Dee: We haven't all left ; -) (SVR12 Gt3s). May have to run me off with a stick.
Good health and Good waiting and then treating, Rangle! On to SVR!
And Come On, Pharms! Get this gt whipped!

I don't know how many on the forum are genotype 3. The breakdown of genotypes in America is 70% geno 1, 16% geno 2, 12% geno 3, 1% geno 4 and less than 1% geno 5&6.
When interferon and ribavirin were the only drugs available genotype 3 had an SVR rate of between 65-80%, right behind genotype 2 and far ahead of genotype 1. Now, with the new DAA's genotype 3 is the hardest to treat. But, there are drugs in the pipeline that look promising for genotype 3, as well. Here is a good article about treating genotype 3's.

Hi there I know there are Geno type 3's who have been cured but once cured they normally leave here. I will try to find some information for you
Dee
Here is a link to members who are cured (SVR) or relapsed. Its not a complete list but provides information about different Genotypes and out
come of treatment.
