Cymbalta antidepress- Two Thumbs Up!

Hi All,

Started taking Cymbalta in prep for impending tx -- it's great stuff!  Previously very symptomatic and depressed (I can just hear the tx'ers out there saying, "You just wait -- you don't know depression,") but now I'm busier than a worker ant organizing cans on kitchen shelves.

It's an SSRI for serotonin and norepinephrine receptors plus designed to raise pain threshold -- rx'ed lots for neuropathy.

Just an FYI in hopes of helping,

Kittyface

Yup on the diabetes, but the Docs say that is'nt it either. I was on Lyrica then cymbalta and now effexor, the Docs bounced me around trying to find a antidepressant that they all could agree on. I owe alot to these antidepressants, they didn't make me hyper but calmed the mind down so I could think.
Good Luck on treatment.

Yes, my free Alinia arrived and I'm awaiting SOC.  If anyone needs tips getting it please let me know.

nygirl:
Cymbalta has an energizing effect instead of sedation so that's a big plus on tx.   I felt the same way you did the first time I tried an AD when grieving over the sudden death of my 36 yr old husband on a basketball court (I was there).   Doc recommend Prozac and I never felt better.

Hi Myown:
Hope you're fine!  I've been organizing my kitchen shelves!   I'm turning into Martha Stewart on this stuff!

Harrybeads:
I personally wasn't having neuropathic pain -- I was just a physical and emotional wreck (just wait 'til I start tx!) from feeling constantly ill and trying to function at subpar level.  Amazingly, the Cymbalta has alleviated my physical and emotional symptoms in one week.  Lots of energy and happiness!!  I'm even excited about starting tx so I'm thinkin' I must be out of my mind on serotonin.  Works for me!  Just hope it lasts.

Go with your gut on the cause of your neuropathic pain.  The many manifestations of HCV are just now coming to light and most docs can't keep up with them.  Do you have diabetes by any chance and is the Cymbalta having the same effect on you?

Love to All,

Kittyface

If you like, PM me and I'll send you my address then forward your card to HR.

   Hello,
Are you having neuropathic pain that you believe is related to the Hep C? Hope I read that right. Why I ask is because I do, and would like to find others that do to compare notes . The Docs say it's not related but I find that hard to believe do to all the research out there that backs up the possibility that the virus is directly related in some cases.
Thats great that you started cymbalta prior to starting treatment I did the same about one month prior.
I was taking cymbalta for neuro pain prior to dx of the Hep c.

Good luck in treatment, your proactive approach will help.

Hi Kitty,
Glad to hear that you are doing well. I was wondering where you were - haven't seen you around.

It seems alot of the doctors lean towards Lexapro on forum and from what I have read. Lexapro doesn't seem to work for everyone so its good that you mentioned this drug for those that may be looking for an Ad or looking to switch.

Take care!

My doc put me on Paxill a month before treatment.  I spent the entire first month trying to keep my eyes open - God it just knocked me OUT! But I'm so glad I stayed on it because I KNOW in my heart it really did help me make it through treatment.  I think I probably needed it all of my life and never realized it before.
