I cared for my hubby (HCV positive) post liver transplant. Though I gloved up for every bandaging & blood contact procedure, it was truly impossible to always be 100% as careful as I should have been. He had drains, tube, etc out of his side and I was cleaning those & emptying them. Also cleaning up after him as per normal bathroom use, bathing, etc. I did not contract the disease, HCV is one tough bug to catch--you guys are ok, I would bet on it. Probably wise to invest in disposable gloves, just for cleanlines sake, at any rate, when caring for any sick person.
You are doing such kind work--caring for sick elders is a hard job.

If your mom has Hep C, it's a bloodborne disease- hard to get except thru blood coming into contact with open wound/IV drug use/blood transfusions. I'm not an expert on transmission, but I would think unless there was blood in the bedpan AND your sib had open cuts where it spilled, there's nothing to worry about.
Best of luck with your mom- you're good people to care for her yourselves.
