Did anyone retain their new lower weight after finishing treatment?

Did anyone retain their new lower weight after finishing treatment?

I have two days to go (yippee) after 48 weeks of interferon/riboviran and have lost 15 kilos (about 30lb), the only good side effect I've had. I read about so manby of you putting weight back on which I find kind of disheartening and just wondered if any of you managed to keep it off, or not put much back on. Many thanks - Jane

I'm also fighting the weight gain post tx (9 months post).  I lost 25 lbs during 60 wks tx.  Would have been happy only gaining 10 of that back, but NO.......I'm back to where I was and fighting to keep from gaining any more.  Menopause isn't helping, either :(  It's a battle, but a more preferable one than tx.  I'll take being a little chubby and feeling this great anyday!  Be well, all.

Oooohhh - I don't even want to talk about the weight gain.  I lost about 12 on treatment and that was eating nothing but junk.  I was in heaven when it came to my diet and treatment.  That was probably what got me through the 48 weeks - knowing I could eat all the donuts and cookies I wanted.  Then reality set in after treatment.  Have gained back all 12 pounds and cannot shed this sweets addiction.  If I don't stop, I think I'm going under hypnosis.  I have absolutely no will power when it comes to sweets.  Also, I think food tasted so terrible on treatment that it is a joy to eat now and actually have things taste good.  Gotta go.  I hear the ice cream truck!

Oh no, the weight thing again.  Another battle ahead of me, I finished my 48th shot last Friday and finish the ribaviron this Friday.  Haha, another challenge ahead.  I may have a double whammy when my metabolism slows down again--no hcv meds and no cigs--oh well, will have to jump that hurdle when I get there.

Sorry to say but I gained most of it back and now have to watch my weight due to becoming hypothyroid from tx. LL

My guess is that if you continue the good eating habits and drink lots of water after treatment..( I find freezing bottles of ice water helps)your weight should stabilize. Good on you, God's good blessings on you, you've toughed it out. Two Days. Ive got 2weeks left of 48 but if I get clear svr I'll never take my health for granted again. Grains and ice water. Starbucks is good though

JANE, i'm concerned about the same thing...i needed to lose and lost 40 lbs on tx...i actually have more to lose to be safe...i surely don't want to gain it back again...plus my dr said that being overwieght may make my liver keep dieing even after getting rid of the virus cause i have "fatty liver"... this is something overwieght people get along with the liver disease alot of times that is another constant insult to the damaged liver just like the virus...getting the bmi below 30 is suggested along with slow weight loss...

we will have to be tough!!!

Jane,,,I can't believe you are almost through,,,that is great and in no time you will be feeling better.  I lost only about 10 on the tx and am about 3 and half post and was watching what I ate after stopping because my dr said some gained so much back. All my pants had gotten really loose and were sliding on my hips and I have noticed now,,,They are fitting again nicely.  It just seems to slowly appear back and one day you are back to the same size,,,,at least in my case.  Just try to really watch out what you eat because with you losing 30,,,you may be able to pull off still staying thinner then before you started.  congratulations on being at the finish line!  Its been a long year and almost over!

it definetely has to do with eating and exercise habits, if there is no underlying condition with the thyroid.
I ate many sweets during tx and lost no wt.  I have not gained much, but enough to get tight fitting clothes, 5 months post tx, but i had to stop the sweets binging. eat sensibly and exercise and you should maintain a healthy wt.

86 lbs!!!!!
and you were not hospitalized? how tall are you?
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
Chev,,,that is discouraging if it continues.  I don't mind getting back to where I was but sure don't need or want the added pounds.  And Vicki,,,,you got down to 86 pounds??  That is so tiny.....
Rev,,,Why aren't you hungry now?  Seems like as long as you have been off treatment,,,you would have a good appetite.  I can't even imagine you in your wifes jeans and if my weight increases,,,I will be in my husbands jeans LOL

I did go into the hospital... but that kind of weightloss is not normal... I had all that cancer **** eating me up inside!

I am a medium framed person... & can put on & take off 20 pounds without anybody even noticing...

I used to be 5' 7& 3/4" but I shrank over the past 5 years & now am just barely under 5' 6" & I mean just barely!

Avatar_n_tn
I was wearing little girls clothes... size 10s & 12s because adult 1 & zeros fell off... All I had left for a butt was bones!

You & Rev are so funny!

Wish I had someone to swap clothes with!

LoL... we posted at the same time...

That guy was STUPID... & he always commented on my weight, but didn't do or suggest anything.... I had to force the issue just to get a darn thyroid test... the dumb, dumb

Sweet Taters Yummmmmmmm, my favorite... add a little butter & some cinnamon...

Yea, I am eating A LOT better, & only healthy... I changed my whole regime this time around...

(That's why I am better at telling folks what "NOT" to do)... I always learn things the hard way..

Yea... I had to turn down my hearing aids too.... LoL... I see you noticed that too.... Ha!

Cuteus,,,ROFL,,,what do you mean how tall are you?  Would it be ok if she replied,,,4 ft LOL

Vicki,,,why have you been shrinking the past year??  If I remember right,,,you are early 40's right?  So it wouldn't or shouldn't be bone loss.  Talk about a huge difference in your weight all in a year,,,little girls clothes to regular misses. That is unreal.  Probably easier for you to stay home and wear a robe during that time lol   We are laughing but seriously,,,,I know that must have been such a bad time. This last round should do the trick and then you will be able to put this all behind you!

Are you being serious?  There has to be a reason why you wouldn't be gaining weight now as it seems to be the number 1 complaint of people getting off tx.

mean no offense, y'all.   After all, I'm proud to say that I'm one of those rare few that has actually gained weight on treatment, and it's driving me crazy.    But give up my avocados? Hell no.

I've been fortunate to not have weight be a problem for me.  My body doesn't handle it well whenever I overeat, so therefore if I start to get full feeling I have to stop eating.  I do better eating small meals 3 times a day, lot's of water and an afternoon snack.  Ever since childhood though, I've been more towards the slim side.  There was one time I gained weight and that was about 16 years ago.  That was before I knew about the Hep C and I was feeling better.  BTW, I'm 5'7-1/2" to 5'8 depending on who measures me and presently I weigh 128, off treatment.  However, everybody keeps on bugging me and telling me that I look too thin.  I don't see it that way, but that's what they tell me.  On treatment I usually am between 118-125.

sorry to say as well i lost 15 pounds during treatment and although it took over a year to gain it back it is back...i dont believe it has to after my battle with hep-c i went through a divorce and had other stressfull things which i believe to be as big a factor in not wanting to exercise and over eating a bit. good luck

NO NO NO! read again! I said IF a BIG IF you were a "little person" you would Have been a blimpo at 165! geessh!  I don't think that at 5'8 you can be call that, I know I wouldn't, we are used to meat on bones in my country. A hippo (big hip lady) is a beauty where I come from...lol
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
LoL.... I did read that wrong... blame it on the eyes...

However..... I was a BLIMPO at that weight... Since I went thru that drastic sliding scale... I can say my best weight is inbetween 130 & 140...

We like a little meat on our bones around here too... I just wish My Granny hadn't trained me from an early age to eat EVERYTHING on our plates... She used to not let us get up from the table till our plates were empty...

It was hard to learn to put either less on my plate... & that it is actually good manners to leave a bite of everything on there.... If you scarf down your whole plate, you hostess might think she didn't give you a large enough portion... LoL

BTW= #3 put a little bit of whammy on me... Oh Boy... errr we go!

Maybe because I'm eating junk and gaining during tx it will all come off after tx?!  Well . . . I'm trying to be positive!  Like I've said before that was the one sx I wish I had.  I just eat for comfort and without exercise, now that I'm so fatigued, I'm becoming a chubette!

I just started to lose a little weight in the past 3 weeks. I am not able to do alot of exercise , none, actually due to other health problems.
I seem to have lost my appetite in the past 3 weeks.
Starting at 144lbs and now 137.  I drink alot of water and lost my craving for sugar.  My normal weight has always been 120 but started to gain 2 1/2 yrs ago.
I hope you stay healthy and Im sure the happiness from gerting close to the end of Rx makes us all have a dead sexy look! I am sure I will be a little ray of sunshine again one day!
Good Luck!
