by orleans, Sep 08, 2007 10:42AM
Hey, My parents are old and not quite stable. They do not know about my hep c. I have yet to treat but being stage 3 I am needing to do something. Was hoping to treat without thier knowing but if I loose my hair---- this would be very tough on them. What % of people loose thier hair? jerry

not everyone loses thier hair, and certainly not all of it...Heavy thinning....Although, I have certainly lost a lot of hair in those unmentionable areas (G)....Feels a bit sexy, I have a tough time passing a street light pole without pulling over and doing a few spins (LOL!!)...:^)
seriously though, you'd be surprised, most people never notice, friends etc. are just to familar and really don't look that closely...

I'm in my 20th week of treatment and my hair has never been better!   I started taking 1000 mcg daily of Biotin the last time I treated and never stopped taking it.  I'm convinced that it helps.  I also use high quality hair shampoo and conditioner...... and a satin pillowcase for added insurance...

Hi Orleans....I am genotype 3a und at week 4 ...1000 riba and 180 of pegasis......My hair got a drier texture almost immediately..but no significant hair loss at all. I am at week 17 and just starting to see maybe a little more hair coming out now....not alot by any means. I do agree with the dmhrdh and a really good shampoo and conditioner is soooo important.....but if dmhrdh can tell me about this biotin I would love to hear about it!!!Thanks all and hope you are having a good night

Basically, Biotin is a water soluble B vitamin. It is also known as vitamin H.  Among other things, it promotes health hair and nails.
There are many Biotin rich foods.  Among them are nuts, egg yolks, bananas, etc. In my case, I don't feel that my diet is in any way deficient in Biotin rich foods.   What I DO know is that since I began taking it as a daily supplement, my hair and nails have never been in better shape...on treatment or off.  I just hope my luck holds!

I was told by my stylist to begin using Nioxin prior to and during treatment.  She told me Nioxin was originally developed for people on chemo.  It's worth a try.  Good luck, I know how difficult this is.
