HEPATITIS C COMMUNITY
Does Stem Cell research 'scare doctors and drug companies'?

Does Stem Cell research 'scare doctors and drug companies'?

This is a question for all those 'conspiracy' theorists who claim the medical community along with evil drug companies and hiding the real cures for diseases so they can make money.

Why is there so much research (and clinically promising) on Stem cells? If the research holds out then many diseases and conditions will be curable and hence many specialists and drugs obsolete?

isn't time for you to go to be yet? I thought people that work for drug companies have to get up early.

i won't answer any of your posts, so talk about Dr.B all you want.

bye bye

Also, Big Oil has purchased the patents to all forms of alternative energy to keep us dependent upon oil.  But, let's not forget the black helicopters which are circling over all our houses or the spy satellites which can watch us taking a bath.  Oh, how about the rice sized micro-chip implants which allow helicopters, planes, and satellites to locate us within moments anywhere on the planet.  But that might be so the aliens can easily find the person they need for food or organ harvesting.  Then again, perhaps its to help the vampires locate the proper blood source.

Did you also know that more useful research is obtained from using adult stem cells than harvesting them from the unborn?

If you really want to stir the bee hive, there are much more volitile subjects which would have this forum buzzing in moments, or at least until the thread is caught and killed.

Maybe its because I have a science background that I am facinated by the thought process' of people such as MyOwn.

What I have found is that such people when confronted with a hypothesis that runs smack against their 'theory', instead of debating or even rethinking their idea's, they resort to classic attacks on the person bringing up the subject.

I agree but there is one fundamental difference.

Both sides of the arguments you discussed AGREE on the scientific method of proof.

As you know the 'scientific method' has been accepted for centuries.

Supporters of people like Dr. B do not believe in this method. Instead they want to blame outsiders for even having the audacity to question their claims.

Eventually it becomes criminal in my eyes when people promote such charlatans.

That would depend upon who is making the claim of him being a charlaten and upon what basis are they staking that claim.

One must keep in mind that many medicines actually do have their basis in natural homeopathies.  It just that there is not enough of the naturally produced available to meet the demand and so an artificial means is found to mass produce it.

It is true, there are some which are completely artifical in their origin, but not as many as most people think.

Keep in mind that cocaine led to morphine which led to heroin as a progression of pain killer development which occurred to find an alternative to their addictive predecessor.  The only problem was that each decendent became more psychotic and addictive than their predecessor.

The problem with most natural remedies is a lack of studies to prove their claim.  But, some like shark cartelage have led to useful medications which are now helping alleviate the arthritic condition of many who previously could only suffer with the condition.

Again I agree with you.

I currently live in Asia and there are many studies concerning herbal or 'chinese medicine' that follow the rigors of clinical trials.

When something so easy as setting up a proper clinical trial is never done by a 'man of science' such as Dr B, I just cannot understand how people let that little problem slide.

He has treated over 3,000 people and notice that on his testimonial's it is mostly (almost all) children, in order to get the most desperate people. A couple whose child has cancer since they will do most anything to save their child.

Of course, there will always be a coincidence that someone who had some encounter with Dr B actually did go into remission. Just watch the movie 'blue butterfly' to see one case of a boy given up to die with a brain tumor to miracuolosy still be with us 16 yrs later.

In all of your cases I would always feel suspicious (as should all) when there EXISTS a test or method to prove or disprove the theory but the person does not or fights it.

Shark cartilage is also discussed at quackwatch and listed there. If you have some valid info. showing it is anything but quackery, I'd like to see it. I am sure quackwatch would like to see it too.

Its quackery for its use against cancer.

Some studies have shown a 'moderate' benefit in arthritic patients. However not all have the benefit and it is not considered a 'cure'.

Well, with a strong math and science background myself, actually a few Degrees in those fields, I also realize that sometimes one simply has to agree to disagree.

A theory is simply that a hypothesis and it remains such until  enough evidence is found to prove it.  For instance, 30 years ago Astronomy was debating between the Big Bang and Steady State theories with sound arguments being presented for either side.  But with the discovery of the 3 degree background raditiation, the Big Bang quickly became the more acceptable theory, but to this day it is still just a theory as there has not been enough evidence to make it a law or fact.

There are some who still claim that the Dopler effect is not a true indication of movement when applied to light from distant objects (i.e. galaxies) which keeps the Hoyles Steady State theory a viable candidate, but many few that as a very weak case to make but have to accept that there is a possibility that the anti-Doppler folks could be correct.

Yes, the evil drug companies are giving you free drugs and paying for all clinical trials out of their pocket.

The angelic Dr B is having the patients pay for the 'clinical trials'.

All the people who blame everything on "evil drug companies'  seem to think they're conspiring against us.  One problem is that in our market economy, the only outfits that can afford to undertake properly conducted studies are the drug companies, and this does make those studies seem suspect.  But it doesn't necessarily follow that drug companies conspire to keep us from using alternative forms of medicine.  It's just economics.  If drug companies could package herbs and make money from them, they would -- and often they do; many medicines are synthetic herbal formulae.

Its more than that if you do the research. Do you know why compnaies don't like producing vaccines in the US anymore? They are so scared of being sued by the .01% of the population that may get a side effect.

So if bird flu ever hits , you'll know the reason why it is difficult to produce the vaccines if someone ever comes up with one.

Maybe the drug companies are afraid that the stem cell researchers will come upon some breakthrough to cure Hep C and then, they'll take a hard hit on their big bucks $$$  ?  Who knows?  I don't really care what way it is that is used to find a cure, as long as one is found.  God knows the way that HEP C, AIDS and other diseases will or will not be cured, it's not for me to know, just trust that he's in charge.

stem cell research may not find a cure for Hep C there is a line of thinking that immature cells injected into a cirrotic liver may regenernerate into live liver cells, as they will form to the surrounding cells. Not to mention regeneration of Brain cells or for spinal cord injury, just the way they are harvested has a lot of people concerned. There has been a breakthrough lately on that also, don't want to make this too long but there is a place in liver disease for this research.

Ain't that the truth and hey, those olden days aren't that old yet.

It's just too bad we can't go back and tell ourselves how to avoid the bad knowing what we do now.

There was a fabulous tv show on the other night on the rise of Opium/Morphine/Heroin/Pain Pills the other night and how easy they were to get in the olden days and how many people really were addicted to stuff like laudenum etc because they just used it as a cure for EVERYTHING.

But it WAS responsible for the development of real "surgery" because instead of just chopping off the leg of someone in war they actually had TIME to be able to try and fix it.

It's amazing how you have to take the good with the bad in this lifetime huh?

Sadly my first thought was wow too bad I didn't live in the olden days when you just could go to the corner store for some *insert morphine based drug of any kind here!
