Does anybody get this?

by salvo, Sep 28, 2008 08:46AM
This is only my second shot or maybe #3 but I get the usual symptoms but I get nose bleeds  and I get a cough and then about 5 to 6 days later it stops. I have told this to my study nurse and she has written it down.Is this a normal symptom or is it just me? Wont get to see the doctor until NOV. Just a little worried, thanks

I have not heard about this.

I have the smell of blood in my nose, as if I was having a nose bleed, but there is no blood. I wonder if it has any relation ship or not.

I used to be prone to nose bleeds when I was a kid. Any little knock on the nose and it would be streaming for ages. it's a smell one never forgets.

I wonder how your platelets and hemoglobin and other coagulation factor etc are. maybe you should see a hematologist. I don't think it is wise to wait until November. You could be losing too much blood and it is definitely not normal.

Hope it is nothing serious.

All the best, marcia

You may not be drinking enough water drying up your nasal pasage.
maybe???

Hi Salvo. I was in my home page and your post was there.

I have Hep C and I also had the Nose Bleeds.

I do know that Interferon can cause Nose bleeds in 1-10% of ppl who have started treatment. That is one of the side effects of the Chemo drugs. While it is not life threatening, it is something you should mention to your Doctor.

I hope this was helpful.

Take care, Mollyrae

I get that as well.  I try to keep my nasal passages moist by using Ocean Nasal Spray throughout the day and especially at night.  I also put virgin coconut oil just inside my nose when it gets really dry. A humidifier works wonders too.

I never attributed itto the platelets, but I am having (minor) issues with that-so I am not surprised to see them connected.

Riba can cause a cough.  But all things together could also signal this change of season.  Here in hepperville everything can be a symptom, no?? LOL!

Wish you the best,

Isobella

This treatment is very dehydrating. I had the same problem.  I got a humidifer for my bedroom and it made all the difference!
Good luck!

Oops...almost forgot my  "go to" advice:  drink lots of water.  Try for a gallon a day.  It's great for all that ails ya!

I haven't had any nose bleeding, but I have always had dry nasal passages and have used a great over the counter product called Boroleum.  I have been using it for the sores on the corners of my mouth since starting tx.  It's mild enough to be used on children 2 years of age and older and has been around for over a hundred years.  Here's a link:

I was getting nose bleeds, my 2nd month of tx, also had funny little bruises all over. Turns out my platelets were low. If you're concerned, you should call back to your nurse and ask her how your bl wrk was and if there might be any relationship. It's worth it to double check.

Trinity, you have hit it on the head as far as the nose bleeds, mine is exactly that way.I think I can live with that but this cough is real bad, only when I take the TX.Actually my lungs hurt from coughing so much.As far as my platelets, they were down last friday from 285 to 190 which I thought it was a cold or something but now I know all this coughing is from the TX. I need to go one more weekend another shot and then the following week I go for blood work again before picking up more med on friday. Hope I can get through this and for a while I was having second thoughts considering my age.I'm sure this will be my last chance to do this and I want to try. I will try some of those suggestions even though I stick Vaseline in my nose every night but its not doing the job. Thanks to all of you

seems like this past shot did me in.I took it on friday and didn't feel a thing until sat. early afternoon.Had a temp. for until tuesday and wed was my first good day.Instead of this stuff getting shorter, seems like it get longer, so now I think I'll ask if I can take it on an earlier day like back to thur, and then back to wed.I read that on one of these posts the riba will sometimes give you a cough, but I'm fine with the pills but as soon as I take the shot and start feeling the affects, I start coughing, and a never ending cough.I'm trying to do this but maybe my age is not helping and I think,if I were to stop, then of course no one knows if my platelets would go back down to 70 range, so that worries me even more if I would stop.I still take the experimental pill for the platelets every day, so who know what would happen.(I'm trying)
