Dry Skin and anything else

I haven't started treatment yet, for several reasons, but I have been going to a support group.  Many people on treatment suffer from dry skin-- and the PA in charge recommended a product called PURA.  It is a type of collagen that you add to your moisturizer to really fight dryness.  It is only available online.  www.puracollagen.com  I thought I'd let you all know.  Also have any of you heard from your docs that there will be an oral medication available in a couple years?

Personally, I think that any oral medications should be kept to a minimum.  We already take so many and I never heard of one that has no side effects.  I had pretty severe rashes and hives for the first 6-7 months, has calmed down a lot in the past month.  For really dry skin you want to put something on your skin to seal in the moisture.  Most lotions contain some alcohol and will make your skin feel better initially but eventually dry out.  Using Aveno or Cetaphil products help a lot (bath gel, not bar soap, and lotion).  Most people put moisturers on wrong.  You want to seal it in, not out, so the best time to do so is while your skin is moist from the shower.  One trick for really dry skin is mineral oil applied to wet skin in the shower (after you turn off the water of course!)  It will spread easily and in a thin coat, then gently blot yourself with a towel.  BTW, baby oil is just mineral oil with fragrance in it.

Go to the www.puracollagen.com website.  This isn't a pill.  It is something you put on your skin.  It puts water into your skin.  My question about oral meds was regarding tx... my doctor said there is an oral med for tx coming in a couple years.  That's what I want to know about.  Does anybody know what it is called?  Or what company is doing the trial?

Are you drinking alot of fluids?   I noticed when I didn't maintain my 1.5-2 gallon a day of juice and water that I had more itching.  Aveeno is a great product as well and I agree to apply your lotion after your cool (Hot water is more drying)shower and to apply to damp skin.  Sarna is a good lotion too.
God Bless,
Deb

PS Anyone heard from Travelmom?

If anyone knows what they're talking about it's our Galen.
Read her advice carefully and heed it.  She rocks!
You go, Galen & keep telling it like it is!

My drs. office gave me some good info yesterday about what to do about sides. They told me that what you put on your skin can still be absorbed through the liver, such as insect repellents and even lotions. Try to avoid lotions with alcohol. Avoid perfumed soaps, lotions tanning beds and hot-tubs. Try these lotions:Eucerin, Curel, Sarna lotion and Lac-Hydrin cream.

Make sure to keep your injection sites free from sun.  NO sun bathing (to dehydrating and can cause more injection discomfort).  I always used my stomach...so discomfort was very little and less reddness too.
God Bless,
Deb
