MD found this alarming. What does it mean when liver enzmess are elevated?
Scheduled for a ultra sound test this Friday.

You all are a wonderful devoted group of people and I just want to thank you for your interest and help.
This morning I got a call from my doctor saying the blood test from Monday to check for Hep C came back excellant so nothing there to make me worry. However still going for the ultra scan Friday morning to see if anything is there. Possibly a obstruction.
I don't think I mentioned this before but I have a kidney problem as well. Stones galore.
It all made itself evident about 5 or 6 years ago. Finally found a good Urologist and he diagnoised me with stones. Have had them crushed many times to rid them out of my renal whatever they are called. Also suffer from IBS and have for over 20 years...Am I a mess? Me thinks so..LOL - but I will keep going until all is resolved. Again Thank you Effie and everyone who has responded posting. It isn't easy to be 68 yrs old and have other problems besides the fading of beauty to etch away at one.... BTW no tatoos and no blood transfusions ever....

My alt and ast were slightly elevated in the early part of last year i am talking only in the 40 and 50 mark redid blood work six months later my alt was 346 and my ast 234 i was sent straight to a hepatologist with lots of lab work, biopsy, and catscam found out i had Hep c, geno type 1a, stage 0-2. Started treatment in April of this year after 12 weeks i am undetectable but remain in treatment for the rest of the 48 weeks. I guess what i am trying to say is that Hep c is the silent killer you might have symtoms but not tie it into your liver until their is damage. Please follow up and find a good hepatologist that deals with liver issues and get to the bottom of whats happning.Good luck please let us know what happens and god bless you. Effie
You can have Hep c for 30 years before it becomes active and never realize it i got it by a tatoo 35 yars ago or by a blood transfusion in 1986 i am 53 and just found out last year.

Well, I'm not an MD (although the person that is feeding me this information is) so I'm not going to get into details. I hate becoming my wife's secretary. ;)
Look at some of the obvious signs for Hepatitis. Tattoos, blood transfusions before July 1992, illegal IV drug use, any unprotected contact with blood of someone that may be infected...
I'm sure your MD has or will go through all of this with you. Right now your best bet is to wait until Friday, try to keep your mind from racing, and hope for the best.

No I do not drink at all.
The meds I am on are BP meds, and about 4 or 5 months ago begin taking TylenolPM
This has me very disturbed.
I had asked my MD if I could take it and he said yes, since then I find many others on Tylenol PM have had weird blood panels and they blame that medication.
The box info says not to exceed dosage of 8 in 24 hrs.
I have taken 2 a night and no more than 2 ever.
Also have had to be on strong antibiotics for the past year about every 3 months for some kind of inflamation.
That being said, perhaps what I have is another infection?
I almost backed out of the ultra sound but will have it done.
Also I suffer IBS diarrhea, and have had it for more than 20 years.
Gall bladder removed 10 yrs ago, hysterectomy as well.
It isn't fun getting old but it beats the alternative......

Ok.. elevated live enzymes can mean many different things. Most of the time, it means something is wrong with your liver. It can be caused by alcohol, if you drink too much. It can be caused by medicines, but your doctor should know what meds you're on. And also can be cause by Hepatitis, viral or autoimmune. Keep in mind that when you break "Hepatitis" down to it's root words, it means inflammation (itis) of the liver (hepat).
I'm glad that you're going for an ultrasound, but make sure you've had a hep panel done.
