Excuse my ignorance but I would love some insight

Sorry for being stupid on this subject but what are the odds of getting hepatitis c from nail clippers? what factors would have to go into for you to get it.

Thanks, I try to be simple, clear and direct, though I don't always succeed.

Bo: Of course we want to be compassionate.
Please don't take offense but if you like these OCD posters because they're nice to you, why don't you just pm with them, rather than rambling on about unrelated things on this forum.
Or you can do that on the social side, if you like.

hey will, it's shakin and a breakin, gettin on the treatment train again in a couple of months.... responder/relapsers are way cooler...

I can't thank you enough orphanedhawk for making that post. and will, thanks for your concise "to the point" post.

when i read topics like this involving hep c transmission i don't immediately think the poster is a troll. in fact, it's good that people are concerned and want to know more about any disease they may have come in contact with. but when i see a topic like the one michael852 creates i sometimes snap. i always go an check out the original posters profile and previous posts. orphanedhawk had the presence of mind to do a little investigation and so did i.
actually, it disgusts me to have to read some of these threads and how some people trivialize what many of us are dealing with on a daily basis, by posting such ridiculous comments. ok, some people have OCD, I'm sorry for that and there is a forum for that disorder. troll or not, some people need to take a little responsibility for their actions and actually do a bit of research first. sorry for the rant, but i see my bottle of zofran there and i want to chug the whole vile.....(for you HEP C devotees, that's puke medicatiion).

did anyone see the movie Fight Club, where they were addicted to support groups?

"I'll tell you: we'll split up the week, okay? You take lymphoma, and tuberculosis...
: You take tuberculosis. My smoking doesn't go over at all.
: Okay, good, fine. Testicular cancer should be no contest, I think.
: Well, technically, I have more of a right to be there than you.

that's what this reminds me of.....oh how i miss my riba rage...oh wait, i still have it...

Yeah, I suppose they shouldn't post here, but I still feel compasssion for them and for everybody, but especially "the under-dogs" in life : /
I hope nobody would want this painful disease, but I have also noticed, with my behavior, that I run towards what I fear. I have had a life long fear of germs, but ended up in many dirty situations, in my teens and twenties, before getting the behavior under-control, in my late thirties.

These posters(like michael852) are usually nice to me, which makes me feel good, since I come here for support-

Your post:
"Hep C Treatment Tx Devotees"~  they may really admire us, thru going thru this hard experience, amy be a bit turned on by us even, or have fantasies them-selves, about going through what we are going thru~"
-----------------------------------------------

The original poster is a young guy who asked some questions about Hep C transmission. I am assuming he asked them because he did not know the answers and was apprehensive about getting Hep C. In my opinion, his questions are legitimate. Not everyone is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to knowledge about Hep C.

Asking questions about Hep C does not in any way make a person ...a "Hep C treatment devotee."

Frankly, I highly doubt that people asking legitimate questions are "Hep C devotees" and I highly doubt they are "turned on by us." Plus, no one in his right mind would want to go through what we are going through (and I think exceptionally few people who are out of their minds would want to go what we are going through either).

In addition, there may be a few trolls around, but, in my opinion, most people coming on the forum asking questions have legitimate questions even if some people do not think so. We have to keep in mind people come from all different types of backgrounds (ethnic, social, economic, religious, cultural,  practices, personal beliefs, superstituions, education, exposure to knowledge, exposure to travel, etc., etc.) Just because a person does not know something about Hep C does not mean he/she is a troll or a "Hep C devotee" and it surely does not mean he/she has a Hep C fetish or is turned on by Hep C or fantasizees about going through what we are going through.

I don't think this original poster is the one having fantasies.

Just my opinion.

This is not the place for fetish fans nor is it the place for people with OCD and anxiety issues. They often post here, on HIV and STD forums.
The best advice for them is to get the help for their real problem and not feed their compulsion.

A nurse on the HIV forum wrote this reply to the poster a few hours ago.

You have started 20 threads in 12 days, with 98% of them being about HIV (even the ones that aren't immediately about HIV end up there).  You have a total of 80 posts in 12 days.  You have already mentioned numerous times that you think you have OCD, what does 20 new threads in 12 days tell you?

Seriously, the writing is on the wall.  If you keep ignoring this and refuse to seek help, you're going to end up in a BAD BAD place.  I've got a lifetime's worth of experience with anxiety, it's nothing to mess with.  Your worries are misplaced.  HIV is not your concern, anixety (and very possibly a very severe case of OCD) IS.  You need to shut your computer down, this is becoming almost addictive behavior.

Get some help, and start helping yourself by moving on.

Hmmm, ya know...when I used to post various vids on YouTube, I aimed for ALOT of views, because I would post advertisements on there, thru my Google account, in a failed attempt at a side gig. (you have to get 100 hits, to make 10 cents...doh)
But back to my main point: the videos that I made thousands of views with, were the ones of me video-taping my husbands leg, where it had been amputated, from a motor-cycle accident. I would just rub lotion on the scars, or record him walking on his crutches, and I found myself in this world of "Amputee Devotees"...these were people who were amazed at people who had been thru these brutal accidents, where a amputation had ensued, and survived~ some of these "Amputee Devotees" would obsess over the condition (I would guess sexually, but they never let on, and were very polite "fans", etc) and one guy went as far as to even have an operation done in Holland, removing one, two and then three of his limbs. Another girl had a train run over her legs, got them amputated, and made videos~
What I am thinking is that people who post questions on here, about Hep C (and it seems like they have an interest in HIV and other infectious diseases, by their typical profiles, on there typically brand new accounts)
may not just have OCD, but also may actually be "Hep C Treatment Tx Devotees"~  they may really admire us, thru going thru this hard experience, amy be a bit turned on by us even, or have fantasies them-selves, about going through what we are going thru~
I always liked my Fetish Fans much better than the faceless trolls, that would put me down for being 'too skinny, too fat, too ugly, too old, etc"
Sorry if this is "off subject"but I do notice we have quite a few of these types of posters, who do enjoy interacting with us Heppers, especially on a lonely friday or saturday night~  xo

It drives me crazy when HCV is classified as an STD!!

In a way it's not always the average person's fault. Lots of reputable sites on line lump HCV in the STD category. Even if the text dismisses the likelihood of sexual transmission, the people who don't read it may just remember seeing it listed in the STD section:

Hepatitis A - E is listed in the STD/STI section:
http://www.ashastd.org/std-sti/hepatitis.html

STD Test Express:
http://www.stdtestexpress.com/hepatitis-c/

And it would help if the CDC would update their website!!

I just looked at this guys profile. He's been posting these kinds of silly questions all over medhelp, about HIV and acne ? I fear we have another member who really should be on the OCD forum, not here.

Yes, nail salons too!  I will never go back to one and people think I'm crazy but I'm the one with the disease from and unknown source and yet they still refuse to get tested and dont think salons are a possible source!  I remember getting my nails done on several occasions and getting cut with the dremel tool they use to smooth out the acrylic.  All they do is soak the tip in a liquid and keep reusing it the same day, person after person!

The fact your buddy sleeps around a lot is not relevant.
If he had hep C and if he bled on your nail clippers, and if you cut yourself with them within 4 days, there might be a chance of transmission.

FYI: Hep C is not an STD

Technicaly you could get Hep C from nail clippers IF a Hep C infected person used the nail clippers AND cut himself with the nail clippers AND his cut bled onto the nail clippers AND then you came along within 16 hours to 4 days AND used those same nail clippers AND you cut yourself with the nail clippers AND you bled AND some of the other persons blood got into your bloodstream.

Those are a lot of ifs. As hrsepwrguy said, there are no stats on getting Hep C from nail clippers but you can see there would have to be a perfect scenario with all of those "ifs" present. Possible, not real common.

The best way to prevent getting Hep C from nail clippers is to get your own new ones and do not share them or let anyone else use them. Also, I would avoid nail salons. They are using the same clippers and cuticle removers over and over on different people. One never knows if they clean their equipment properly (or at all).

Don't let people use your personal hygiene stuff where blood can be involved! (Razors, clippers, toothbrushes, etc.)  There is always a risk when blood is possibly involved!

Sorry guys the only reason why i was concerned is because back in jan or early feb I let a army buddy of mine use my nail clippers(he sleeps around a lot) and i can not remember if i used them in the 4 day window period that he did and i can not remember if he might have bleed on them
