Experience with 3X-Using Victrilis

With the news yesterday, 2/17 concerning GS7977 and failure with a 12 week treatment, I have a question.  I am 22 weeks into 3x treatment with Victrilis that based on current recommendations would end at 28 weeks.  The shorter duration is because I am a naive and cleared within 8 weeks.  My doctor recommended Victrilis since it had less side effects that might stop treatment though most GI's seem to be using Incivick.  My question for the board is has anyone completed treatment with Vic and stayed clear?  I recognize the drug has only been out since May but wanted to check.

I have to admit, I am so tired of everything tasting like cardboard.  I have read several others complain about weight gain, combination of tasting again and suspected metabolism shifting as they come off the meds.

I am exactly 1 month out after completing 28 weeks of victrelis tx.  I feel GREAT!!  I started at 4 million, after 4 weeks of lead in was down to 50k, and then after 2 weeks with victrelis, I was undetected by the most sensitive of tests (quantasure).  I remained und at weeks 8, 12, 24, and 28.  I am hoping for the best, and have my fingers crossed. will repeat vl at 3 months in april.  I didn't feel too great after a week.  But now that it's been a month, I feel full of energy!  The only problem, is that food tastes GREAT, and I have gained almost 10 pounds already!

Congrats on your SVR! Curious too about your recovering from treatment. I'm on my 33rd week of 36 on vic too. Hope it doesn't take months to clear!!!

Wow you had a great response, you were almost und with just the lead-in. Your odds are up there in 90% range of beating this.

I was in a trial and drew the 48 week arm which was ok by me as i was a prior relapser and cirrhotic........ It took be awhile to recover but i'm not the best to gauge that on as i had just came off of doing 86 weeks before i did the trial. I am now 2 years post treatment and suffer no lasting effects from doing a total of 134 weeks....... Give yourself about 6 months post treatment and you should feel just fine.

BTW, you will feel much better days after you stop.

My viral load at diagnosis was 6 million, 1 million at the start of treatment, 814 at week 4 and undectable at week 8 thus the 28 weeks.  I am Geno type 1, naive, likely had Hep C for 40 yrs from a blood transfusion as a 12 yr old.  How long was your treatment?  What is your experience with recovering from treatment?  All I know is I am very weak and have the impression it takes months to clear from your system.

"My question for the board is has anyone completed treatment with Vic and stayed clear?"

I'm one of those that did vic and now is SVR, there was quite a few of us here. You must have had a very good response so 28 wekks should do the trick...... Wishing you the best...

Thanks for the reply.  I am happy with the shorter treatment cycle and I understand GS-7977 thearapy is different but I became concerned that the shorter cycle was not fully validated.  Guess that's one of the downsides to be an early adopter.

Separately, my hemoglobin dropped to 9.2 and my doctor put me on Procrit.  I am on my third shot this weekend and as of Wed it had risen to 9.7.  Still feel very weak.  For those who have used it, does the nausea continue with each shot or does it decline with each shot?  This is fairly miserable.

Congrats on being UND. at Wk8. On the Vic therapy this is a  significant predictor of success.

The recent failure of "nulls" in the GS trial would have no bearing whatsoever on your success.

There have been many on the board who have done Vic therapy in trial who have attained SVR(hopfully with this bump they will chime in) ,however there are no SVR"s yet treating clinically outside a trial ...still too soon.

Good luck  the rest of the way...
