Sorry for your relapse. waiting for the new drugs sounds like a plan. being a stage 4 I would check labs at least monthly and ultrasounds every 6 months.

Here is a list of supplements I would take if I was a stage 4. This list was recommended by a hepatitis researcher who is also an MD. He actually said this is what he would give a family member if they had cirrhosis.

HRs'  Supplement List

I have added links if additional info wanted.

a multi vitamin/no iron

1000 mg of Salmon Oil (epa=160 mg / dha=240 mg / omega 3 = 400 mg) x1

1000 mg of Flaxseed Oil (ALA/omega 3 450 mg / omega 9 110 mg) x1
Raw flaxseed/ 1 teaspoon daily

Hepatapro PPC (900 mg) x 2

Resveratrol (500 mg) x1  and x2 (alternate every other day)

NAC--(n-acetyl-l-cysteine) A sulfur compound that is a precursor of glutathione and protected sulfur-containing amino acid  (600 mg) x2 with Vit C (500 mg) x2

Life Extension Super Curcumin W/Bioperine 800Mg 60 Caps (800 mg) x 2  / Powerful Antioxidant Properties to scavenge free radicals
Anti-Inflammatory Actions
Enhances important detoxification enzymes Curcumin increases the secretion of bile by stimulating the bile duct. It also protects the liver by detoxification, stimulating the gall bladder and scavenging free radicals. With the help of the adrenal glands, it inhibits both platelet aggregation and the enzymes which induce inflammatory prostaglandins. Curcumin may also help break down fats and reduce cholesterol. Large doses not recommended in cases of acute bilious colic, obstructive jaundice, painful gallstones, and extremely toxic liver disorders

Sylmarin (425 mg) x 2 / Milk thistle provides hepatocellular protection by stabilizing hepatic cell membranes.

Green Tea Extract (300 mg) x 2 /

Relapse is so painful to read about.  So sorry it happened to you.  We all know that the odds of SVR are always tempered by those who don't succeed and it's hard to hear directly from those folks.  Makes it so much more real to the rest, who are so hopeful.

Right now teleprevir and boceprevir are both anticipated to receive FDA approval in 2011.  Originally they thought 2010 but 2011 is more realistic.  There are a number of others further down the drug approval pipeline.  They all show promise for relapsers and non-responders

Avoid exposure to anything that could possibly cause liver damage.  That list can be a long one but just keeping general, that list includes alcohol, NSAID's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; aleve killed my liver) and other over the counter drugs that have any possibility of causing liver damage, chemical fumes (furniture strippers, solvents, solvent-based paints), insecticides...you get the general picture.  All of these things can cause inflammation; inflammation causes scarring and you hope to stay right where you are or even improve a little before the next go.  With my cirrhosis, I read up on every drug that is recommended for me.  I'd rather do that than kick myself over it later.

It's surprisingly easy to practice clean living when you're afraid of everything but that's your life when you have cirrhosis.

I'm sorry about your relapse.

I'm not familiar with cirrhosis, so I don't really dare to give any advice.

Best wishes, Marcia
