False postive for Hepitits C

I am 6 weeks pregnant and just had my blood test to check for Hiv, Hepatits and all the other things that they test for!  I got the results back and the doctor told me that part of the results have tested positive for Hep C and the other Part was negative!  I have had to have more blood tests but I dont get the results back until tomorrow!  I have no reason what so ever to have the disease, its a massive shock to my Husband and Myself, we are both loosing sleep over this news, and I havent been able to think of anything else!  Please help I need to know is it possible to have a false positive result??

Yes,there is a chance of a false postive on almost any test. As for not having a reason to have this, there are a lot more " reasons" than you think.

EVERYONE is at risk for HCV.
EVERYONE should be tested.
Have you ever been to the dentist?
How 'bout a manicure or pedicure?..
Colonoscopy perhaps or cystoscope?
Any surgery what so ever? I assume all your partners
have been tested and tested negative.
(Low risk involved there but still a risk)
I don't mean to scare you but everyone is at risk
and I believe everyone should be tested.  Perhaps you
had the virus at one time and cleared it.  The chance of you
passing it on to your baby and husband are slim.
No sharing toothbrushes and razors.

"I have no reason what so ever to have the disease"
You need to do some research.
Good luck-I hope it was a false positive

hi shez, sorry to hear this news...as you know hep c is a passed on blood to blood and there are many ways you could have come into contact with someone elses blood and may not even been aware of it as the poster above stated...

but you do have a chance that it could be false or that you had it once and cleared it on your own...i assume you got the antibody test first...now you need the VIRAL HEPC PCR...to check if the actual virus is present...it will give you either a number of virus' present per iu (quantitative) or it will give you a definate yes or no to the actual presence of the virus (qualitative)...you may have had this already too? these are the one you should be concerned with...if they come back possitive then you probably do have it...

if you have it try not to panic. it is not necessarily a death sentence...there is a chance to clear it on the meds and there is a chance that yours won't be aggressive enough to kill your liver before your normal life expectancy is up...no one knows if they are in the "lucky group" so most of us decided to get the treatment and kill that sucker...before it kills us...

if you find out you have it...come here and stick with us we will help you through the treatment and support you with tons of info and care...but i pray you find out you do not have it of course...let us know shez...

oh sorry i forgot you said you were pregnant...so if you have hepc you will need to wait until after you have the baby to go on treatment...you can not go on treatment while pregnant it causes birth defects...but, this disease takes many years usually to prgress to serious fibrosis or cirhosis so you must get a biopsy and find out your grade and stage of liver damage...lower scores mean you have more time to wait if you need to before starting treatment...if you have a very low score you may deside to wait until the baby is in school...treatment needs your alot of attention and effort...it's like chemotheropy sort of...

most drs say if stage 2 or higher you should treat as soon as possible...9 months generally is not a long time to wait to start tx...so get the biopsy and start from there...you will most likely find out you have plenty of time to treat after baby is home and a little older...

p.s. chances of giving it to baby are very low... (i think only 3-6%) talk to your dr about this...try not to use forcepts at birth...i did hear that...could nick babys head remember (blood to blood)...some think c sections are safer some think not...best to investigate and talk to the baby dr so your baby will be best looked out for.

chez let us know...we care,
