Fever and other post

Three days of fever running around 101 to 102. Taking Tylenol but just feel yuk. Seems this way every weekend through Monday nights. It has become worse since the increased dosage of Nupogen. Shaking hands and really blurred vision seem much worse but I just accept it as something to do with the treatment meds.

Do most of you deal with the fever issue? Dale

How much Neupogen are you taking now?  I was taking 20 three nights in a row when I was first put on it, now only need one shot a week.  I felt pretty crappy taking three shots and the bone pain was bad.  I do get a slight fever now that you mention it.  Are you sure nothing else is causing such a fever?  That is pretty high.

Hi Dale , sorry to hear about the fever. I'm in week six and this past weekend was my first to have fever. Just like you , 101-102. Saturday officially became the worst day of my life. All I could do was get in bed, My wife had to bring me food because I was scared to get up. Sound familiar? I hope it's not
a sign of things to come. I took advil for the hurts and tylenol for the fever(like my body knows the difference) and by last night things were getting better.
Hope you start feeling better.

They effect my aches and pains in different ways. I have a few orthopedic ailments that respond best to anti inflamitories ,so I take Advil. Tylenol seems to work best for ordinary pains and fever.

The vial says 300 so I assume that is cc. I've watched everything else trying to make sure it wasn't some virus that slipped in while the white cells were away but it's just a constant temperatue with a pounding headache. A few weeks ago I bragged on how much better things were and now I seem to be going through all the initial sides again. I'm halfway to 48 so all I can do is grit my teeth a bit. My wife thought because I was feeling better it was a permanent plateau in my treatment so she has warmed up well to the up and down wave thing. It's so hard for those on the outside (spouses) to have any concept of this unless they have actually experienced it themselves. Sometime I feel like I rob her of life because even though I encourage her to go and do she feels like she should stay near. Maybe I'm just a bad patient.

How have you been doing lately? Dale

It sure sounds like an infection.  Have you had a CBC since you increased the Neup?  Sounds like your ANC must have gotten pretty low to be doing extra neupogen.  My hemo nurse wanted me to double up last week because my ANC was lingering at .5 but I begged off for another week.  I do a CBC this afternoon - we will see...

I would certainly call the doctor - even your gp - maybe you need a round of antibiotics.

Oh, wow!  You are so observant.  Mine says 300 mcg too!  Must have been confused with Procrit.  If you are just taking one, I wouldn't think it should cause such a reaction.  If the fever goes away in about 3 days, it's possible it's the Neup since that is about how long it lasts.  Interesting tho.  Do you et bone pain too?  I, too, get the pounding headache with Neup that might last a couple days.

I totally relate to your wife.  I keep telling my husband to just go do whatever.  He bought new four wheelers right after I started treatment thinking my check would pay for them and it would be good for us.  Now, I just wish he would go by himself cause it breaks my heart to say I don't feel like going and he stays home because of it.  Your statement:  "Sometime I feel like I rob her of life because even though I encourage her to go and do she feels like she should stay near." really says it all for me too.  My other worry is when I do finally get to 48 (33/48) that I will be expected to be back up to par in a week!

On the other hand, I truly believe that our spouses can somehow feel some of what we on tx feel.  Marriage means you become one together.  They probably think they are helping by staying close.  IF they could see that it's hard enough to treat and , dare I say, waste a year of our life, it is even harder to watch our spouses be punished too.  Ya gotta love them for it tho.

I had a couple very up days a week or so ago but am fast approaching how I felt before.  My legs are like rubber and hurt all the time, bad enough I am going to ask my PCP for a disable parking thing.  I walk around with the Old Lady Shuffle!  The heat and rubber legs and I will be thinking several times about going anywhere.  Got up to 75 Sat and it was awful.

I do hope your fever flies with the wind and you feel much better in exactly one hour.  Try to have good thoughts all day.

Yes, I get fevers.  I have found that ibuprofen works better to fight a fever than Tylenol.

I take the Pegasys on Friday nights (week 24) and the Nupogen 24 hours later per doctors instructions. I was taking 150mgs but in the last three weeks its been increased to 300mgs because of Neutophils dropping below .5 again. Plus me and Mr. Platelet aren't getting along that well right now. Say it kicked your butt this weekend too. It's hard to get up jolly and a great attitude with your eyes glazed over from a fever. ha! It will be what it will be I suppose. I hope you get to feeling better Dyce. Dale

It appears that fever is just standard operating procedures I guess. Thanks girls it helps so much when you know others have similar sides so it confirms your not just having some type of reaction. Dale

Hey Kathy.
My Neuprophils have dropped a few times down into the .3 range and Doc freaks out. he is so afraid I will pick up some pulminary infection again. I stay out of airports, walmarts, malls and churchs (not the chicken store) for now. Platelets have been a problem staying at 70 and below so if a good day comes along I'm really going to know it. Thanks. Dale

Sorry to hear your not feeling good.  That has been my complaint lately.  I take my shot Sunday evening and for Mon. and Tues. I have a fever also of 101,102.  I have one now as we speak, this has been going on for a few weeks and always come's the day after I do my shot.  Sometimes during the week I have a low grade fever.  I blame it on another stage of sxs doing tx.

Hey Melissa:
You started you sentence saying you must have been confused and that confused me. I thought that was a prerequisite for us. You're right the fever only last three days max but it usually starts on Pegasys night (Friday) and runs through Monday nights. I do the Nupogen on Saturday nights. You had asked about bone ache. Gosh that is maybe the most horrible part laying in bed at night not able to get comfortable and thinking you need a hip, knee and ankle replacement at one time. Arms hurt some but not like hips and legs. There has never been a time in my life where I couldn't take off on a five mile run now I have trouble with a five minute walk. I live near a small town and my friends used to make fun of me for running into town to the water tower and back out again. I wish they were making fun of me now. You've probably nailed it down that the Nupogen is doing a trick on me in this higher dose. I will not see the doctor until the 9th for visit and labs.

This dad-burn treatment is so bad on the spouse Melissa. We have this old junker corvette that we love to just jump start it and take it down to the Sonic or ride out to the forest in it. It just sits. The cat sits on top of it to protect it ha! I also worry that even at the end of treatment her expectations will be to high compared to the reality of the situation in the real world. I hope I wake up after shot number 48 and my old self gets out of the bed but you and I know that isn't going to happen. I understand it can take up to six months to get the toxins out of your system and the lingering sides. I try to be a realist about things. I'm on 24 of 48 so not far behind you. I cleared at 12 weeks.

The rubber legged thing is funny and that is why I sit to pee at night ha! My daughter tells me I walk like Fred Sanford now and I told her she yapped like aunt Ester. We had a cool snap here (Memphis) Saturday and the temps were around 60. It had been in the 90's. I don't think I'm going to enjoy summer this year. I can't breath at 50 degrees and low humidity.

Thanks for pumping sunshine my way. It helps. I hope those bone aches do get better. Do you ever find you push yourself to hard to make sure your spouse has some type of social life and then pay for it over the next several days? I do that all the time. I think it sends her the wrong message that I am doing fine and all is well. She usually follows it up with disappointment in me. She has been a good trooper though.

You have a spectacular day and thanks for listening to my rambling. Dale

Dyce said he had a fever right now too. I'm still at 100 or so. I have been sweating so that is usally a good sign. That sounds stupid doesn't it? If it goes up to around 103 I'm done for I have no choice but to go to bed. Everyday in everyway I'm getting better!!!!!!!!! How are your counts doing? When do you return to doctor? I'm assuming you are still in NY because of the problem. I checked with the Florida Chamber of Commerce and they have assured me that they are going to keep it open until you get back:) Dale

Let me know, my friend, how you are feeling, okay?
I worry about you when I dont read all the sarcasm, and funny hahas in general.
Get your rest, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

So the three of us have fevers, mine was 101 before.  My count is still the same but tomorrow I go for a procrit shot and I'll fine out what the hgb, hope it went up.  How is your count any change?
I hear what your saying, when I sweat I know I'm breaking the fever. Still in NY but will be back in Fl in 15 days, it can't get here fast enough.  Dyce, are out there?  How are you feeling, besides the fever?  Dale are you really feeling better every day in every way?

You get to go back to FL? How long do you get to stay? Are you gonna ask the Doc tomorrow about doing the Procrit yourself?

I got to thinking about mine and Dale's posts about our mates and then thought about you.  Sorry.  I hope you get to stay home til the end of treatment. Have a good visit with the Doc tomorrow.

Thanks for the kind words, you sound better. Last shot kicked me hard today where the sun  don't shine, plus was busy at work and then spend the afternoon in a very busy hepo office. On the bright side, had a new NP today who was VERY nice, so the complete check over of probing and stuff and she was very thorough from my eyes to my ankles wasn't so bad. There was a couple places she didn't check but. At least the time spent with her over some was nicer. :) Smile now for me

I'll go home to FL in 15 days for a week stay.  I only have 5 shots left and decided to just let them give it to me.  If the HGB stays up then I'll be able to stay in Fl.
How are you doing tonight?
