Financial help for meds

Thanks for the phone numbers for the meds for hep c.  Does anyone happen to know what the salary requirements are to get the medicine?  My brother has no health insurance but does work. Also, when you begin treatment are you able to work or too sick?  We do not know what to expect.  It is a very scary situation as I guess you all know especially without insurance. The doctor and hospital for the mri are letting him pay it out.

sis, as for the meds, you just need to call and ask for the forms.  

As for working that can be a lot trickier.  If he works for a large company he should have a employee packet that lines out the medical leave rules.  However, my guess is that if he has no medical insurance, there is no such plan.  Even if there is a disability plan, it usually does not kick in for several months.  Social security disability is the same.  I do not believe he will qualify just by having hep C but if his condition under treatment becomes such that he can't work, he will need to apply.

It does not hurt to contact social security and ask for a packet to apply for SSD.  YOu will need lots of documentation from doctors to qualify.

the pharm co's are very liberal with the amount you can make. if i remember correctly i read it was around 40-50k per year if you have one child. maybe less without dependents. as far as working while on treatment, hard to say some work and some can't. this is why most do the injection on a friday night so they "hopefully" feel better by monday for work.
