As for working that can be a lot trickier. If he works for a large company he should have a employee packet that lines out the medical leave rules. However, my guess is that if he has no medical insurance, there is no such plan. Even if there is a disability plan, it usually does not kick in for several months. Social security disability is the same. I do not believe he will qualify just by having hep C but if his condition under treatment becomes such that he can't work, he will need to apply.
It does not hurt to contact social security and ask for a packet to apply for SSD. YOu will need lots of documentation from doctors to qualify.

the pharm co's are very liberal with the amount you can make. if i remember correctly i read it was around 40-50k per year if you have one child. maybe less without dependents. as far as working while on treatment, hard to say some work and some can't. this is why most do the injection on a friday night so they "hopefully" feel better by monday for work.
