Finished my 24 weeks - Pros & Cons

Hello everyone
I wanna thank everyone that helped me thru this 5 1/2 months of tx (Jim, NYG, Kalio, FLGuy, Bug, Cuteus, etc, etc..I luv ya all..) Thanks for your ideas and comments..You provided with more information than my doctors..Other forums in spanish gave me encouragement but you gave me hard data, heated debates and links to valuable scientific resources....It seems tha americans heppers are more educated than others other heppers around the world..As u know I'm G2b and RVR from week 2. I had suffered from 2 bouts of HYPER thyroid and was close to throw in the towel but I'm finally done. One thing, I lowered my riba dose to 400 mg (without telling my doc) in the last month or because I was feeling pretty bad already and had no procrit but at least I was able to finish the IFN course.
My pros: No pain in the URQ, spider veins in ankles dissapeared, white palms, improved thinking process although brain foggy, liver feels cured (I know is soon yet)..Didn't loose much hair.
My cons: I'm gonna have to change prescriptions for glasses, my mouth has a funky dry taste, and I have a wart in my face I swear I didn't have before IFN tx. I feel pretty tired and my stomach is still upset. I hope this will go away with time.
If I relapse I don't know what my next move would be: do 48 w with combo or stay in CIFN instead of waiting & see 4 new meds.
If I SVR I will try to continue with my life and educate people about HCV and visit yous frecuently. On  tuesday I will get 2 blooworks for EOT and a fibroscan and will incinerate my sharps container in sorta of a religiuos way..but i'ts gonna be a long wait to know for sure if I clear...one year right?

Saludos y gracias a todos mis amigos
Love to you and the great US of A

Thanks 4 everything guys. Big hug from here

Deb, we really should go to the corner ;-)
I'm kinda sad today cause I thought I was going to be better after finishing TX and my FS reading was 11.8 KPA!!!..:-( So I'm F3 and one step to F4 ...well I guess I have to keep going and with friends like you.  I  won't have probs down the road.
BTW my endo is puzzled..She says my gammaray and endoscopy confirm Graves but then again she says that I responded way too fast to the thyroid meds (3 weeks as opposed to 2 months) so sh's' gonna control me every month until she decides to burn it or not....Got a bunch of bloodwork on the pipe for the next 3 months.

But like I said the Fibroscan wasn't good news 4 me

YAY i am SO DAMN GLAD FOR YOU!

I know how hard it was but you did it and now the hard part...waiting begins LOL you can sit here with me in that corner of the room now! ;)

As far as "my mouth has a funky dry taste,".....it will be gone in a week or two for good! I swear! I have actual spit in my mouth now...something that I didn't realize was so crucial in life before (I'll never take that spit for granted again EVER!) and food tastes MARVELOUS I mean EXTRAORDINARILY MARVELOUS~ During my 72 everything tasted yuck, like medicine or just plain gross and I didn't want to eat but now....................wow everything is so WONDERFUL even foods I previously hated.  THAt my friend is fun at first but be CAREFUL or you'll end up like me going what is this thing on my hip? Fat? hahahaha  took a while to get over not having that gross mouth.

Anyway I'm so happy for you and can't wait for you to start feeling great. It's spring and it's the best time in the world to quit treatment and look forward to the start of new things.

Don't disappear on us.....we need to congratulate you yet on the SVR!  :)

Your friend, Debby

So very glad you are done. Things were rough for awhile.  Since you have been clear since week two (but they didn't use a very sensitive test, did they?) your chances of SVR look pretty good.  I will be looking forward to your posts after your PCRs.

Your mouth should clear up pretty quick and you will be eating well!

Yeah, I think you're absolutely right.  Spilling half the peg Friday night was the last straw.  I went into a tailspin so friggin' quick . . .

From what I remember about prozac last time i took it, ten years ago, it should make me VEEEEERY Haaaapppy!

How ya doing with post tx sx?  How's the rash?

(if i don't answer back tonight it's coz I'm already in you know where.)

Ok after reading what I wrote, I see I can't spell.  I can't remember if that was a pre-tx side, so impaired cognition might or might not be a post tx side
for me! Scuba you will not relapse, you were RVR so early and continued to be und. You have made it!

Wyn: good move IMHO. You have tooo much going on right now. Why not feel a little better?

I'm so Haaapppy for you.

I started TX right after you (I just did shot 20 and have 28-52 more) and I remember being really touched by your condition.  You fought really hard and you pushed through the moments of "i-just-can't-do-this-anymore" and you made it.

(hope I can finish my TX, too.)

Best of luck with the future and with SVR.  Keep us posted.

Pretty soon, you'll be back to diving agin!  (bet those sx disappear real fast)

Bug,

Just wanted to let you know i finally threw in the towel today and started the prozac.  I've gone 5 months without help, thinking the mood swings might improve, but, although they're not increasing in duration, they are a lot more intense and i just can't handle it.  I guess the moving-stress has pushed me over the edge.
I know it takes up to a month to get good levels in the blood but I swear I already feel better.

FELICITACIONES!!  I am 2 shots behind you on a 24 TX. Also close to quitting the past three weeks, but you kept your will up. I hope to make the next couple weeks.
Best of luck on SVR and a better, longer life.

I'm so proud of you. I would have thrown in the towel long ago. (And literally,  I did, too) I can't believe you kept fighting!
I'm so sorry about the procrit not being prescribed. I really thought that you said the symptoms cleared after they found out you had hyperthyroidism. I thought your hgb sounded really low at 10 for  a male, but, again, I was confused and thought the thyroid medication was helping your symptoms. I guess you were just trying to be nice and not complain. Or my brain just couldn't read between the lines.
I've gotten over my post tx sides, to my knowledge, except the hair copntinues to fall out.
I pray that you will soon be symptom free, virus clear, filled with energy and full of life.
Hugs and congratulations for putting a such a good fight!

Congratulations on finishing treatment! If you test for viral load one month after your last ribavirin pill, a negative result should correlate around 90% with SVR. If you test three months after your last riba pill, a negative viral load correlates very close to to SVR. Hope your post treatment side effects resolve soon, but you have to be a little patient.

All the best,

-- Jim
