Fosamax and HCV

Does anyone know any adverse effect with Fosamax, a medication for treating osteoporois or brittle bones? My regular doc (who knows I have HCV) prescribed it to me.

I know that the liver processes all drugs and reading the side effects is scaring me.  I have stage 2 fibrosis and failed the traditional interferon/ribavirin treatment already.

Hi, there are newer drugs as stated above, I have a relative who takes a shot once a month, like the Sally Field commercial.
I think you have to weigh the risks against benefits.
The one risk that scare me was jaw bone problems.
But...that was with prolonged use.
Good luck.

Oh wow. That's great.  I'm going to see a new hematologist in two weeks and I'll discuss this with him.  I'm not so sure I should be on Fosamax yet as I only have osteopenia and I'm taking calcium and vitamin D.
Thanks so much for your help.

I have cirroris and was prescribed Fosamax by my Doc's. I have also had a liver transplant. They now are prescribing a once a year Reclast infusion for my osteporois. Thats seems to be  a lot less taxing on the liver. Big bonus for me was I didnt have to remember to take those pills everyday!!!!
Good luck!
