Frustrated

I am halfway through treatment with victrillis,I am one of the unfortunate people with almost every side effect.I feel so frustrated because I have so much anxiety and insomnia and because of past drug history the doctors seem reluctant to help manage extreme side effects.I have been sober for years and have changed my life.my question is has anyone had similar experience or any suggestions.

Welcome to the forum. You will find manyn helpful people here and lots of information.

I never used drugs so I don't have that history for the docs to use against me. I am not on Victrellis so I cannot speak to Vic. I am on Pegasys and Riba and I have quite a few sides from them, some minimal (or, at least tolerable) and a couple not so minimal.

Obviously, there are some side effects to Interferon and Riba that there are few remedies for other than tylenol or something like that (aches, flu like symptoms, etc.). However, some side effects are treatable and I think they should definitely be treated. I don't think doctors realize just how bad some of these side effects are, and they are cumulative. Plus they take up residence for a long time, not just a few days. I think that your doctor is doing you a gross injustice by not addressing your treatable side effects (rash or nausea if you have them, anxiety, insomnia, etc.)

Have you seen a psychiatrist for an evaluation? A psychiatrist, not your Hep doc,  should be handling your anxiety. There are drugs for anxiety that are not habit forming or addicting. If you have not seen a psychiatrist, I would see one if I were you. He/she should be able to help you with the anxiety and possibly the insomnia (if it is due to anxiety).

I wish you the best.

Thankyou for your response my doctor has tried several medications that are non habit forming.I absolutely refuse to try any more yesterday was zoloft and besides the fact that I became more wired and jittery I spent the day vomiting and heart racing.I'm still not right and spending the day trying to replace fluids.so many of this sort of medications have so many side effects.I am already so I'll and weak that i am unable to have anymore of this type of set backs.thankyou again

I would keep trying different AD. Give them more than a day you may feel worse the frist couple of days. I take celexa.... the frist few days I had a lot of nausea but it's great now, You do need to be careful about relapse.. it can happen after years of being sober.  I have seen it happen over and over.   I have been sober 25 yrs and I would be afraid to do xanax or valium but that's just me
