GI-PA - West Nile Virus - Are we at a higher risk?

I live in FL and have a new retention pond just outside my back yard.  I'm wondering if I need to speak with the developers who are building behind our home about the large area of standing water - like please treat it with insecticide?  I haven't seen any info. on West Nile and people with compromised immune systems - should we be concerned (pts on tx)or should we just take the regular precautions that anyone else should take?  Am I just worrying too much?  Thanks GI-PA.

There things that are mostly natural called mosquito dunks and mosquito bits.  The bits kill instantly and the dunks are good for about a month.  I use them in my koi pond and my horse water tubs.  The dunks are round like a doughnut and I tie a biodegradable string on them and tie it to a rock so they sink.  Both work great!!

IT DEPENDS ON WHERE IN FLORIDA YOU LIVE, BUT CHECK WITH CDC FOR YOUR AREA. I LIVE IN SW FL AND GOT WEST NILES 5 YRS AGO, (BACK WHEN I WAS HEALTHY) IN THE LAST 5 YRS MY HEALTH HAS BEEN RAPIDLY GOING DOWN HILL AND I STILL DON'T HAVE ANSWERS BUT A LOT OF SYMPTOMS. I EVEN POSTED FOR THE DR. TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY CHANCE THAT WEST NILE CAN CAUSE MS BECAUSE I HAVE ALL THE SYMPTOMS I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK YET.

THERE ARE A LOT OF RESTRICTIONS ON SPRAYING INSECTICIDES ON AND AROUND THE POND. YOUR BEST BET IS TO STAY INSIDE AT DAWN AND DUSK, PUT ON BUG SPRAY AND KEEP IMMUNE SYSTEM UP.

GOOD LUCK,
PAT
