"How long were you supposed to be on the meds (7977+Riba)?"
I will only stop treatment when I have my transplant surgery. So up to 24 weeks. Sometime within the next 11 weeks.
"When can you talk to your regular doctor?"
My doctor and the leader of the Gilead study are one and the same person.
"Do you know how long the person that is getting the new liver has been on the 7977+Riba?"
I don't understand. I am getting the donor liver.
Cheers!

Hi!
"At 10 days in I'm starting to feel the Riba; I had an anaemia problem last time and took Epo for practically the whole 48 weeks. The Hospital called me today saying that my ALT levels had doubled in the first week of treatment. As they are normally sky high anyway (200+) they are getting me in for a scan next week."
10 days? That is very fast and I guess possible. It took me 5 weeks to feel any different. By the way 200+ is not usual in patients with hep C. If it was over 1,000 that would be worrisome as it would indicate acute liver injury.
* Are you undetectable yet?
* What is your ALT count?
* What was your hemoglobin count before starting treatment?
* What is it now?
Servere anemia (such as can happen with current 3 drug therapy) is very uncommon with this treatment. If hemoglobin drops below 10.5 they will dose reduce the ribavirin.
Is anyone aware of the ALT levels being affected in this way by GS7977?
No. ALT and AST will return to the normal range after you become undetectable at week 2 or 3.
"Dry skin, itching, tired. But the Riba cough hasn't kicked in yet."
Dry skin and itching are not side effects I have ever seen listed for this treatment. Tired? That is the ribavirin. Cough started after I noticed the weakness and fatigue from ribavirin.
Hang in there. This therapy is amazing.
