Genotype 3 - cure rates

Hello all, what is the difference between genotype 2 and 3 with treatment.  My partner thought he was 2 but in fact is 3 - he has grade A cirrohsis as well - currently on Rib/pegatron week 4.  Thanls for your help

Both genotypes 2 & 3 are treated the same,24 weeks unless someone is a slow responder then the treatment is extended. Cure rates are generally the same with a very good 80%...roughly.

Having cirrhosis can make the odds harder to beat.  While both geno 2 and 3 are generally considered a "lucky" geno (yes who's lucky with hepatitis????) 3 can sometimes be a bear of a geno to beat if you are one of the few 'unlucky' ones who don't make it.  At times it can be as hard (if not harder) to beat than a geno1 which is the toughest of them all.

Make sure that you have frequent PCRs done on him.  The closer he gets to undetectible by week 4 the better.  If for some reason he doesn't clear until much later than that - if you could talk the doctor into extending to 48 weeks is probably wise.  Believe me nobody wants to extend (I had to to 72 weeks) but it's a better alternative than having to retreat all over again and then go to week 48 should he relapse.

I'm was a geno1 but that's my take on it.
