Genotype not identified

Hi, I have had twice blood tests I. Genotype and both came back unidentified in either genotype or subtype.  Does anyone know what does it mean especially what I have close to 6 million hep C viral counts?

I am eager to hear the outcome of your query.

I hadn't realized that genotypes could be undetermined or that one could have more than one type of HeP C

Be well

I will see Dr. Jacobson in mid-August and certainly will share the consultation result.  I have found this forum to be very educational and helpful.  Thank you for the suggestion.

A very good ideal as he is one of the best there is and is involved in all kinds of research dealing with Hep C. If there is any way possible to find out if you can be genotyped he would have the answer.

If you are able to get this resolved please come back and let us know either way as it could be much help for someone in the future.

Best of luck to you.

Yes! I am trying to make an appointment with Dr. Ira Jacobson based in NYC whom had been highly recommended in this community forum.

In your case another opinion would be a good ideal. Not saying your doctor is wrong just I would want another Hepatolgist thoughts on this.

Thank you!  I was afraid that would be the case.  My doctor seems to assume I would be treated as 1a HCV with Q80K variant at baseline and IL28B TT genotype and advised me of the treatment in October with fixed dose sovaldi ledipasvir.  I am thinking if I should find another Hepatalgist for another opinion.

In the years I have been here I have seen this only a few times to where they were just not able to identify a persons type. In the ones that stuck around they were treated as having the hardest type to cure as for treatment. I hope you are seeing a good Hepatolgist at a teaching hospital if possible. Wishing you the best.
