Got Biopsy report......Finally

by Pdilly, Jul 11, 2006 12:00AM
Got my long awaited bx report.  Not as good as I was hoping but it could be worse.  They rated me a 2-3 on both categories.  I am probably going to assume I am a 3 due to the recent posts of people being one thing and 6 months later something else higher.  Here it goes.

1  Chronic Hepatitis with mild to moderate inflammatory activity and  early bridging septal fibrosis (grade 2-3, stage 2-3).
2.  Perivenular, non-bridging fibrosis
3.  Hepatocellular and Kupffer cell siderosis.

I have no idea what numbers 2 and 3 tell me

Thanks for your input

I noticed that My ALT and AST were higher than the last blood work done.
ALT -105     AST   47

Do they typically go up and down?

Yes, they do go up and down so don't be alarmed.

Could you tell me why one of those ALT or AST is supposed to be higher or lower than the other. I don't understand this. Thanks!

Hi,

Never heard that one # should be higher then the other.  Where did you hear this?  Maybe someone will chime in and let us know.

Maybe I misunderstood, or Brian Fog heard it, but I was sure someone mentioned that one should be higher than the other. Hopefully someone can clear this up. It's been bothering me since I read it somewhere.

Most liver diseases are characterized by greater ALT elevations than AST elevations.  Two exceptions to this rule exist.  Both cirrhosis and/or alcohol abuse are associated with higher AST levels than ALT levels, often in a ratio of approximately 2:1.

Was that what you were referring to?
Brain Fog is visiting here also, so hope I understood your question right!

Bibby we are talking about the AST and ALT, and that one should have higher #'s then the other.  Do you know why?

That's it! Hey you did good! I never would have remembered that. I knew I saw it, just thought Brian was playing tricks on me again.

Thanks!

Kalio-- That's what we were looking for, thanks.  Last week my AST was 24 and my ALT was 13.

I would have to research it more to be sure but if both are within normal range I believe it is ok. As you said, they do fluctuate and can be influenced by foods and supplements and acohol. I am certainly no doctor, but that is they way I understand it. Hope this finds you well and gtting better everyday!

Beagle; So this means you have cirrohous? Why was this good news? I remember people saying these were good numbers.

My Alt was 38 and AST 21 last week. Does this mean I am NOT cirrohotic?

Since Beagle's #'s are low does this discount the 2:1 rule?

Is there any findings about the reverse? Doc says my enemyes are good, but doesn't explain why, except they are low.

by Mister beagle bailey, Jul 12, 2006 12:00AM

Your #'s are good because the normal range is:

AST  3 to 50
ALT  5 to 80

Also my #'s are good too.

#2, referring to non-bridging fibrosis is good news.

How many cocktails have you been taking before writing  in on this old thread ?

Why don`t  you open a new thread instead and ask!!!

If you asking if you can get the virus back if you take a coktail after work the answer is no ,unless you get so intoxicated you go out and share a needle with someone!!

To: Gastro group-anyone?
I had gallbladder surgery a week ago and since then I have been ill, itching, fatigue, nausea.  My doctor tested my blood for liver disease and these are the results:

AST 149
ALT 392
Alk phos 171
Bilirubin total 1.7

I am not a drinker or do I have unprotected sex but I was in Mexico in 2007 and ate at a roadside stand.  I have done some research and it seems I fit into the PBC area unless I am missing something.

by nygirl7, Nov 11, 2009 01:49PM
helpme - you actually stumbled into the hepc  group of the gastro group...most of us only know about that disease and it's treatment.

I don't want you to think anyone is ignoring you...just go to the top of the page and see "forums" and you will find the right one in there!

Good luck.
