Great news all round at this point of time...

by Jane_s, Aug 07, 2005 12:00AM
But it's kind of lost momentum because it has taken 2 weeks for me to find the forum open but here goes...

My 3 months post test for Type 1 (non specific)48 week treatment was still negative. Now I know I'm not out of the woods and am quite prepared for the possibility of relpase but each day negative is another day for my liver to repair and recouperate so no matter what happens I am better off than I was before treatment

And for all those that lose weight, I lost 15 kilos (30lbs)during treatment and every one indicated that as soon as treatment stops weight piles back on, well at my 3 month check up I still hadn't put on even a kilo...

Just wanted to shae those positives with you all....

I GUESS I SHOULD BE FETTENING UP FOR TREATMENT.

Jane...Congratulations ! I think you're so far out of the woods that if you look back now you won't even see a leaf. :)

Micabo...Congratulations as well! As a fellow 1b, stage 3, may I ask how long you tx for and what drugs and dosages you used. Also, was this your first treatment. Thanks.

I am from British Columbia in Canada, I treated for 48 weeks, was tested the first time at 12 weeks and was undetectable.  I was on Pegintron which is weight based, don't remember exactly the dosage, I know I was taking 5 riba per day and the appropriate dosage of Peg.  I quickly lost 25 pounds so the dosage ended being a little more considering my weight.

I am hoping that my liver is healing now.  I feel good, everything is back to normal, my worse sides were anemia and everything that goes with it.  Here, Procrit is not free so I could only afford to take very little of it, just enough to keep me over the numbers where they were going to stop treatment.

I am very happy that I did it, it was not fun but is is definitely do-able if you keep the outcome in mind every minute of it.  I probably saved my life by not giving up and by being so positive.  The best of luck to you!

Congratulations!  Just wanted to tell you that my liver specialist tested me one month post treatment because, according to him, 97% of relapses happen during the first month after stopping treatment.  He is one of the leading researchers in Canada, by the way.  I am now 8 months post-treatment and still undetectable.  Was 1b stage 3 - 34 years infected - I also lost 25 pounds during tratment and gained back 15, I needed to, I was skin and bones.  Good luck and I would be ready to bet that you are totally out of the woods.

Congratulations! You might not be completely out of the woods yet but you should have a very good view of the clearing just up ahead. I wish you the best. Good luck. Mike

Thank you both for your kind words. I was so lucky to have found this place in my time of need, and too have been able to meet such caring, informative people such as yourselves.

I hope that I will be able to help at least one person with my experience with tx.

Mike - You will always have a special place in my heart. Now stay off those bikes.
