I haven't made it to ESLD yet, just "mild cirrhosis", but I have had an episode of bleeding esophageal varices and subsequent banding.  So my doc thought I should get evaluated by the transplant team, and they thought I should get on the list, and they check me out every 4 months now, even though my MELD score is low, currently 9.  My LFTs are normal now, they went down shortly after beginning tx.

I got hepC in 1970, so yes, it does progress slowly, but it does progress.  I had slightly elevated LFTs since at least 1980, but otherwise was fine.  I was an avid cyclist, with many 100+ mile days under my spandex's. But I remember the day in July '99 when my legs first felt weak, and soon realized that no matter how hard I trained, I wasn't getting stronger.  It's been downhill (hmm, or is that uphill) ever since.  Hey, I still plan to live forever. If this liver fails, I'll get me another, and another...  A good friend just got a pig's heart valve on Monday, and it will have to be replaced in about 10 years.  I draw the line at cryogenics, but like INF tx, if the odds get better, that line will move too!  I'm another Cheater.  It's a miracle I survived my youth, and in 2002 I had prostate cancer, and I beat that.  Life is interesting, struggle teaches you if you let it, and I feel I've learned a lot.  I don't always feel so positive, of course, but ALWAYS I know I'm a tough guy.  You are too.  As we used to say on the picket line, the struggle continues.

Cuteus, Chevy, I'm glad to hear from you and to be in your thoughts, as you have been in mine. Also thinking of Cindee, Tnhepguy, Honey, Mikesimon.  Apologies to anyone I've missed, it's the drugs, I hope, haha. I look forward to finding out how everyone is doing. I'll try and do some catching up reading old threads.  Peace.

Good for you!  Med help is on a roll now for svr so we need to get on the band wagon,,,Best Wishes to you!

I was on Lexapro. She already mentioned a probable need for something like Xanax. I have to wait and get a job first and then worry about things. Thanks

No on the viral response. Soon as I can I am going to try for the full treatment with better control hopefully of sides, especially the mental aspect, I have no at home support. I'd be willing to try a maintanence dose if I have problems and can't continue at full dose.

Hello there! how can we forget you?
You were slow in clearing those last darn buggers from your blood, but off they went! right?

84 wks! is that one year from clearing, I believe?

I just donated my last riba bottle to my GI practice, but forgot to bring the Procrit(leftovers), I wish you could have it instead! Some Pegasys was mailed FedEx (2 days) and actually arrived cold at its destination, by someone I know. Let us know if you need some help.
best to you, always

I was a 3/4 close to 3 years ago, I haven't had a biopsy since. I didn't reach svr and had a major problem with sides and couldn't go on any longer. I've been having major pain in the r & l quadrants and abdomin. A year ago last December my spleen was enlarged and my amonia level is very slightly elevated, I think that's what she is using in saying she thinks I maybe into cirrhosis. I've been out of work for just about a year because of the pain, seizures, chronic pancreatitis, headaches, day night reversal. I'm trying to get a job now so I can get an income and get rid of the state insurance so I can treat again.

Hey Rev, I haven't been here for some time, not long after you finished tx I think.  I'm sorry to read that you have relapsed after your long ordeal.  Great to see that you have kept your positive attitude, and you continue to help others.  Hope your bx shows a reversal of damage.

I'll be doing shot #57 of 84 this Friday.  Insurance quit at week 48, but doc is giving me samples, Peg/Copeg.  Procrit for 2 months, off now for a month, starting to feel that anemic exhaustion again.  Platelets are low, 44,000, I'm bruising from elastic tourniquet when blood is drawn. By the way, just to keep on topic, low platelet count during INF tx increases the odds of developing HCC. I suspect this is why my transplant team is having me get an abdominal MRI every six months.

Morobert, I cleared at week 33. Have you had a steady progression of decreasing VL?  Are you abstaining from alcohol, and strictly following the protocol?  The #1 cause of failure to respond is non-compliance w/tx.  Best of luck to you.

Hello to anyone who remembers me.

Thanks. I had the AFP done and a ultra sound a week age. I'll get the results in 2 weeks when I go back to the doctor. I'm at Bridging Fibrosis they think cirrosis now. I didn't know that was a factor. I guess thats why the doctor ordered it.

Is there a range that they look for in the AFP test, or just that it is present? Also what do they look for in the ultra sound?
