HCV RNA Quantitative

by famon1341, Nov 09, 2009 09:31AM
I tested negative/undetectable just after 12 weeks of treatement.  (I had to to 48 weeks of treatement).  I have still tested negative 4 months after treatment.  Now I am anxiously awaiting my 6 months results.  Is it still possible that I could come back postive at my 6 month check?  Are my chances of coming back negative still at 6 months increased since I was negative soon into treatment and still negative at 4 months.  Waiting is very emotional.

Depends on when you cleared and what geno type you are and your starting VL,age, sex, how long you had thie disease, what drugs you used, your weight on TX.fatty liver degree,if you pst these stats you may get a better response,BUT,the main predictor is if cleared by week, this trumps all the others.

Clearing by week 4 is the trump card above all i meant too say is the best predictor of all...90% and up

If you were virus undetected four months after the conclusion of treatment then the 6 month test is slightly more than a mere formality.  You should be able to relax the anxiety at this point.

Totally agree with FlGuy.

Agree today - but let me tell you when it's your year test and 2 year test...you will be nervous at them too.  That doesn't really change all that much unfortunately!

Somewhere on this forum people have listed the statistical probability of achieving SVR if the 12 week post TX PCR is negative.  Don't remember the numbers but they are incredibly good.  I know you can't just turn worry off, but you should feel VERY encouraged by that 16 week negative PCR.

I think my doctor said the odds of remaining UD after a negative 12 wk. were in the high 90's.

Well to answer some of those questions I contracted HCV when I was probably around 20 and I am now 32.  I started tx and ended tx when I was 31.  I always forget my genotype but it is the one where tx is 48 weeks instead of 6 months.  My scar tissue and liver inflammation when starting tx and 5 years prior to that were scored at a 0 and 1.
My VL at the beginning of tx was somewhere right around 160,000.  My starting weight when beginning tx was right around 150 but you have to take into account I just had my 3rd child and was starting tx 6 months after having my 3rd child so I hadn't lost all the weight yet.  My normal weight is right around 140.  I currenlty weigh 143 and I've been done w/tx for 6 months now.  The lowest my weight got during tx was 133-135.  I probably had a pretty bizarre case from what my doctor said as far as side effects go I didn't really experience any expect my hair thinning and experiencing shortness of breath.

I will know by the end of the week what my 6 month result is but the waiting is killing me.  I should have known by today but the 1st blood draw the nurse didn't take enough blood so the lab was unable to perform the test so I had to go back in yesterday to have more blood drawn so now I have additional days to wait to find out the results which is upsetting and frustrating to say the least.

Has anyone ever taken anxiety medication while going through or after tx?
