HCV Worries from Oral Sex?

I have recently had a handful of oral sex partners both of us male and never having any ejaculate in my mouth with the exception of possible pre-ejaculate. I am wondering if should be concerned and what the statistics are that I could have aquired Hcv this way. Also, if you have any advice on Hep A,B as well would be great. When can I test for these and expect reliable conclusive results. Thanks.

You are correct, they serve no good purpose.

Poor attempt at humor to start with that got out of hand.

truley regretful

Did you genuinely feel that your last post was  helpful to either the OP or those  dealing with HCV on an info. and support forum?

"How would you know this, is this how you contracted HCV :0".
personal attacks?

"I'm about as straight as straight gets, but I do have friends and family that are gay". "Homophobic comments"?

"Sorry if I struck a personal nerve"

I'm about as straight as straight gets, but I do have friends and family that are gay and your homophobic comments are really not needed on this forum.

"Unprotected sex has consequences, that has been known for along time"

Being a medic you would think you would be a little more informed about how HCV is spread.

Have a great day

Medic, Viet Nam, lots of blood to blood exposure (wound to wound).

Sorry if I struck a personal nerve.

The poster was trying it get a reaction and succeeded. Profile says the poster is female.

Unprotected sex has consequences, that has been known for along time.

" perhaps someone in the future coming across this thread deserves to know the facts and how dangerous gay (man with man) sex is. Anyone who don't believe this is foolish. "

This is a very homeophobic inaccurate statement.
Since your bias is counterproductive to giving truthful information in this area, you would best help people by refraining to comment.

Man to man sex covers a huge variety of sexual encounters.
Have you heard of safe sex? Men using condoms are protected.

"There is plenty of data to back it up. There is no need for me to post specific links. Just google "gay men and HCV"."

Why do you refuse to show your sources? I showed mine.

I can google 'insurance covering birth control pills for women" and find a post calling it prostitution. There is a lot of misinformation out there including things from people's blogs.

Copyman if you really think oral sex between 2 men is more of a risk then oral sex between a man and a women then i really hope this thread is NOT read in the future.... Because you don't know what your talking about.

Back on topic this is the title and question.

@copyman, could you please post the stats and links to support your claim that this is a effective route of transmission for HCV

I have made my point and done posting about this. There is plenty of data to back it up. There is no need for me to post specific links. Just google "gay men and HCV".

Nothing to do with homophobia just trying to help someone that seems confused about the risk. Or perhaps someone in the future coming across this thread deserves to know the facts and how dangerous gay (man with man) sex is. Anyone who don't believe this is foolish.

There are no known cases of HCV being transmitted through
oral sex on a man (fellatio) or a woman (cunnilingus).
However, it is theoretically possible that the virus could
be transmitted this way if a person has mouth sores,
bleeding gums, or a throat infection.

Please stop the homophobia.
If he is having annal sex, he should be tested. If he has multiple partners, he should be tested. If he is worried, he should be tested.

You'd be surprised how many men don't consider themselves homosexual and yet have sex with other men, especially in other countries.

And nobody is saying he isn't at risk.
All I was saying is the gay population does not have more incidence of hcv than the population at large and request you show your sources for such a claim.

I was researching the other day. I was trying to find the data on the percentage of people with Hep C who also have HIV. I could not find data on the percentage of people with Hep C who have HIV, but I did find data on the percentage of people with HIV who also have Hep C.

"Hepatitis C is common among people living with HIV. In the United States, 25 percent to 33 percent of people living with HIV are coinfected with HCV. This means that at least 300,000 people in the United States are living with HIV and hepatitis C."

Link to some statistics from the CDC:
There are some very good tables as you scroll down the page. One of the tables lists Diagnosis of HIV by Transmission Category.

It's also true if you are having rough sex with heterosexual men who are HCV positive you are at greater risk. As far as oral sex goes-really? How many people put a bleeding penis into a bleeding mouth? That is the only risk with oral sex whether you are gay or straight!

Contrary  to what some are posting on this thread, if you are having sex with gay men you are at great risk for HCV as well as HIV. It don't matter if it is oral sex or otherwise. The more partners the greater the risk. Proceed with caution and get tested often.

Good luck

Oh, and BTW: My cousin works in AIDs care and prevention in NYC.
The largest population with HIV/AIDs there is not gay men, its poor black women. ( many who are or were prostitutes)

I'm not disputing that HCV is very prevalent among gay men, as well as  the baby boomer generation etc. But your reference makes it sound like they are more likely to have hcv than others. Not so.
Show me your research.
  Stop spreading stereotypical myths.

Here's what my search showed, and the sources.

http://www.epidemic.org/theFacts/theEpidemic/USRiskGroups/

Similarly, low income groups seem to have the highest risk of infection. In one study at the inner city VA Hospital in Washington, D.C., one in five people admitted tested positive for HCV. Similar results (18%) were obtained at the John Hopkins University Hospital, located in Baltimore's inner city.

from: www.hcvets.com

The VA Testimony before the Subcommittee on Benefits Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, U.S. House of Representatives, April 13, 2000, Gary A. Roselle, M. D., Program Director for Infectious Diseases, Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, state, "One in 10 US Veterans are infected with HCV", a rate 5 times greater than the 1.8% infection rate of the general population."

Of the total number of persons who were hepatitis C antibody positive, and reported an era of service, 62.7% were noted to be from the Vietnam. The second most frequent group is listed as post-Vietnam at 18.2%, followed by 4.8% Korean conflict, 4.3% post-Korean conflict, 4.2% from WWII, and 2.7% Persian Gulf era veterans

Your not going to get HVC from oral sex unless the one getting it has open sores on there penis and the one giving it has some seriously bleeding in their mouth. Blood to blood contact only.

If you are still worrried then get tested.

I should of been more clear. I meant gay men community. The original poster said "he" had sex with another man.

I still stand by my original post, HCV is very prevalent with gay MEN.

Anyone wishing to dispute this should google it.
