HCV affects on urinalysis

by BWest, May 10, 2004 12:00AM
I was on Tylenol#3 for two months. I had a urinalysis 8 days after stopping the Tylenol#3. The urinalysis showed positive for codeine. I want to know if having HCV (ALT is 200+) can affect the accumulation of codeine in the urine. Is there any other possible reason why this could happen?

My daily medications are:
1000 mg Naproxen
1100 mg Depakote
100 mg Trazadone
20 mg Prozac

Thank you.

I'm not sure what the enzymes have to do w/ how the liver proccesses the drugs, I do know that liver damage does affect it. I have cirrhosis and any drug I take has a longer half than for healthy people. Codiene does stay in my system longer than normal, but it's also damn bad for my liver. All of the meds you're on seem excessive to me and they are all hard on your liver. You are on 2 or 3 anti-psychotics and an anti- depressant. I would discuss these meds w/ your Hep Dr. and unless you are getting these drugs from several different Dr.s, I'd consider seeking another opinion.    Take care, Joni

Naproxen is not an antipsychotic.  Depakote is not an antipsychotic.  Trazadone is not an antipsychotic.

I do agree that those meds are hard on the liver, though.  Depakote should not be given to anyone with liver disease.

Time to re-evaluate those meds, I would say.

I looked all 3 drugs up in my PDR and the 2 things that concern me are w/ the depakote. It is very dangerous for anyone w/ liver disease. Also it is not supposed to be taken w/ prozac.
