HCV transmittal

Well I was diagnosed with HCV in Sept. '05 and elected to undergo drug therapy. I took Ribavirin and Interferon (sp?) for a six mo. period.  My viral loads indicate that the virus is in remission as it can't be detected in my system (< 50 counts per ml.)  I'm doing great and feel the same. I practice safe sex with my girlfriend, but is there still a risk of passing the virus on to her?  Is it transmitted by sperm if no blood is introduced...by saliva?

Thanks,

Chuck

If you are clear of the virus after treatment verified by a PCR DNA test showing you have n0 virus a year later then you do not have the virus therefore you can not pass it to anyone in any way. You can not pass on something you dont have. Congratulations on clearing the virus and achieving SVR.

Unlike HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, the hepatitis C virus usually isn't transmitted through sexual contact. Instead, its primary mode of transmission is contaminated blood
