I have been on treatment 1 1/2 years and having a problem with my HEARING- I did go to the eyes/ear/nose/throat Dr., who sd i do have loss of hearing and believes it is due to peg/riba treatment..What he sd was @ my age (55) he is seeing hearing loss that he has only seen in Older patients and suggested that within 1 to 2 years I will have to have a hearing aid...WHAT!!!!!  Is anyone else out there (on treatment or done with treatment) have this same problem???  You dont have to yell- I can hear you... thanks

I have five more weeks of tx (48 total) and developed hearing loss about three months into it.  I went to the ENT dr. because my one hear and side of my throat really hurt for a month (they found no infection) and had a hearing test and have mild hearing loss in both ears.  They've heard the same problem with other patients who had been on chemo and/or interferon.  My hepatologist found an article in a medical magazine which was about a study which found hearing loss can be a side effect positively and in the study, the loss was permanent.  I also developed tinnitus which is annoying.  My hearing loss is very inconvenient though.  I still pray that my hearing will improve after tx is through.

Yes, I also got hearing loss as a result of tx. Only one ear and only slight, but enough for the hospital to do an MRI scan to rule out it being caused by a tumour, as they said this kind of hearing loss was not normal in someone my age (47). I have also had tinnitus for the first time in my life as result of tx, but this seems to be improving two years after finishing tx (or maybe I am getting used to it!). Another well-documented side effect, I'm afraid.

Yep.....I developed an ear infection around week 4 & then had ringing in my ears for the rest of tx & 2/3 weeks after finishing in May.  I also experienced a weird sensation with my hearing....the only way I can describe it is the sound of a car whizzing by.....it was loud & unnerving....I used to get it mainly at night....it would jolt me out of sleep.
Since finishing tx, my hubby says I mumble but I feel I am talking really loud?  Hopefully this will get back to normal soon.
Best wishes
Louise
