HELP! terrible headache and fever for the past 10 hours

i'm thinking it's sinus infection, i've had history with that before, this time, my throat hurt terribly bc i felt there was mucus dripping down my throat.  i used saline nasal spray last night.  still can't get all the mucous out.

when i lie in bed, i can't sleep, i shiver from chills or sweat up the whole bed.  my head hurts.  temperature measured beginning at 100.3 degrees and now it's almost 102.  i can also feel my heart pounding although i've been on 40mg of beta blocker since last month.  i feel like if i eat stuff, i will vomit bc my throat is so dry, and as i'm typing this, my eyes are having trouble focusing a little.

i felt fine like my normal self yesterday, but totally different this morning until now.  took a couple of amoxcillin antibiotic pills.  Tylenol would help greatly, but i'm allergic to it, it gets worse everytime i take it now.  and i can't take Advil bc it reduces platelet counts.  and my plats are already hoovering in double digits.

so what do i do?  i'm already on at least 8 pills a day and at least 3 shots per week.  i really need some pain killers right now

So pleased you're feeling better! I've been dealing with low platelets for 5 years now. I had to get INVG before I could get the biopsy. Its some scarry stuff.

I'm so glad to see an update from you and double glad that you saw your doc and got proper antibiotics (be sure to take them until they are gone).  Get your rest and let the meds work - don't push yourself right now.  I hope you feel better very, very soon.

5 to go...you are almost there!!!

didn't go to school today, visited family doc this morning and got nasal spray and Amoxcillin prescribed, turned out the ones i've been taking were expired 2 years already!  throat still hurts but fever has gone down some (from 102 to 97) this morning.  doc thought it was the flu too, but i'm still convinced it's the sinus.  keep getting grossly colored drips from above the throat.  didn't want to tell hepa anything bc they'll just tell me to stop like they did before, i don't like how they don't give me any options.

i did take an Advil last night, but don't think it worked as fast as a Tylenol would.  it cured the headache for most part, but i don't want to take more of it scared it'll cause me to bleed bc of low platelets, i already have low platelets.  the last thing i'd ever want, is a transfusion.  transfusion is how i got hcv in the first place.  so watch your red and whites people!

Ask your doc about Roxicodone. It is addictive as well, it has no additives like tylenol ibu  If you only use for a short time it should not be that bad. I hope you get to feeling better. If you dont get better you should be seen.

Yes Vicodin is made with ancetametaphine and hydrocodone. There are other medications that are made with ibuphprophen and hydrocodone if tylenol is not tolerated.

I did not decide to take this drug lightly and I would certainly not recommend it as a cureall.

For me its not a concern of it being addictive just of pain relief. Others on this forum that have dependency issues probably would not want to take it.

Ditto what Port said.  Vicodin is a narcotic and does have Tylenol.  It can become addictive and should only be used if the pain can't be managed any other way.

My doctor offered them to me months ago for bone pain and I absolutely refused because I was afraid I would become dependent on them considering the amount of pain I had and the length of time before EOT.

Eventually, I managed using only over the counter meds.

I think you and are are alike when it comes to meds.  Less is better for us but don't suffer either Lal.  Do you what you think is right for you.

Dear Lal,

I'm wondering how you're doing on this sunny day?

You know that Jim and Riba are almost synonymous, so if HE says that backing a bit off the Riba at this late stage in tx may help, that's something to seriously consider.

I know, I know. Neither you nor I (nor probably Jim) would easily follow good advice when it comes to reducing. Stubbornness can be our strength and adversary.

It's worth keeping in mind, though. You may want to discuss it further with Jim and others before ruling it out.

And I will guess you know, being as smart as you are, to not take an antibiotic or two kicking around the house. My mom used to do that and it drove me crazy. She'd be so enthusiastic about her pet and wrong-headed approach.

The pounding heart is a real concern, especially that you're already on a beta-blocker.

I don't know much about rebound but maybe check into it concerning the nasal spray.

Vicodin, by the way, is an opiate that contains a high amount of Tylenol, which you're allergic to.

Much love, thinking of you and waiting to hear from you soon,

Port

If this headache situation continues I would suggest speaking with your doctor about a good pain reliever. I suffered for 2 months only taking tylenol (which doesn't work for me) because of a platelet disorder. Then I was prescribed darvon which only worked at large doses. I had an MRI to rule out any other problems such as sinus. Now I'm prescribed Vicodin. I don't take it during the day because I need to be aware at work but it is a lifesaver when the headache gets really really bad.

I hope you are feeling better this morning.  Please let us know how you are doing.

One thing I'd like to mention, if the antibiotics you are taking are some that are left over from something else, please do NOT take them.  Unless you were recently prescribed antibiotics, taking a few left-overs will do you NO good and will only help to fuel antibiotic resistance.  Also, there should never be any left-over antibiotics because they are prescribed to be taken until gone.  (Just for future reference).

Wishing you well!!

Hope you are feeling better.  The nettie pot is a great idea and it does help.  I hate headaches!!!  I usually put an ice pack at the base of my neck and that helps too, frozen peas work too.  And always if you dont get releif see your doc.  Feel better

Talk to your doctor, lalapple.  Cold cloth on your forehead.  Not only does it feel great when you have a fever, it helps.  Talk to the doc.  You're almost there.

I agree with the others about touching bases with your doc, especially if the fever and pounding heart persist ___and if things get worse before morning do not hesitate to go to the ER tonight especially re the heart. You also want to get updated CBCs, and Thyroid tests as well as an iron panel to rule things out. Also seriously consider stopping the riba until at least the heart pounding resolves or your doc gives you the OK. I don't think a few days off riba will make any difference so late in treatment. Also extra liquids and maybe soft, bland foods. Hope you start feeling better soon.

I have often wished I could be put under conscious sedation until the TX is over. Check with your MD ASAP to see if there is something to help you sleep or with the discomfort. It is so hard on this TX to tell what is a cold/flu or allergies? I have been hesitant to take any allergy meds for post nasal drip, itchy eyes or throat because of the dehydration issues. Hang in there, this too shall pass. As I have said before I find that just when I think I can't take it anymore it gets better.
I wish you well.

My heart goes out to you. i am just getting over sinus infection at least it started that way. My body was so weak cuz of wbc I could not fight it.tryed prednazone and anitbotics nothing helped. It turned into viral infection was sick for 4wks doc said it just had to run it's course. all the same symptions as you. I could not get out of bed, fever ,cough headach ,joint pain.
Got a bio vegatarion immune booster from naturalpath because modern med. was doing nothing for me. If you do this check with doc ,but it should be ok
Also get yourself a netty pot it is the best thing you can do for sinus

I have had lot's of sinus infec. in the past too. I now think it was because of the hep-c.
All this said honey if you haven't seen a Doc do so soon they might beable to help you the longer you wait the worse it's gonna get
Hope you feel better soon
Take care of yourself

my son just had a killer flu that sounds just like yours....he thought it was a cold/sinus thing too...but I'm not convinced...it was more yukky than a regular cold.

taking a couple amocicillin won't do anything for a virus...
you would be better off just trying to stay hydrated, and get seen if you get any worse.
My sons faver lasted 5 days...his throat and sinuses were involved...it was 3 weeks before all symptoms were gone...even though he took zinc and stayed in bed, it's just hard to shake some of the newer bugs...they seem to grow ever stronger.

I would be best to get a flu shot each year as a liver patient.
If you have any difficulty breathing get seen immediately, and please don't just take 2 amoxicillin...you can actually cause an infection to begin by taking less than a full course of antibiotic drugs.

hope you feel better soon. If you don't have a sleep aide you could try a little benydryl....
it's ok for the liver and will help you get some rest which can be hard with fevers etc.

Please keep us posted. I have crummy side effects today, too, but nowhere near as many as you.

I hate my galloping heart and went out on the balcony at three in the morning to run away from it. I watched a bright planet and that helped.

This needs your attention and the watchful eye of someone at home.

Lal,

If you can't take Tylenol, take Motrin or Advil.  Anything to reduce the pain and fever until you can get to the doc.  A couple of doses isn't going to knock your platelets down to critical levels.  Drink plenty of fluids so you don't get dehydrated.

Do they have a doc in the box (Doctor's Care -  Urgent Care) open around there?  If they do you might want to go and make sure you give them your complete history.

parent at home tonight,  i figured that i was getting nowhere napping bc it just made me feel worse.  chills and sweats.  so i finally took an Advil around 6pm.  don't recall having a fever for this long except for 7 years ago when i was in the hospital for a sinus issue.

i didn't want to tell my hepa about this bc i'm scared they'll tell me to stop treating again.

drinking cold things made it a little better.  and so did gurgling with salt water.

thanks all, you all are wonderful and always here for me

I agree that you should call your Dr. or at least  talk to a nurse at your closest ER and preferably tonite. With your low whites and all your other issues hitting you lately, I think it best to be proactive.  It may need a bigger kick than Amoxicillin and maybe you can get something to help you get through the night with the pain.

Keep us posted............Pam

AAAAAwwww lala------I had that happen Thursday evening, the flu sx and my eye started hurting me Saturday.  Its awful.  I was able to take Tylenol and that broke the fever.  102 is high and if it doesn't break soon --jump into a cold tub or shower to lower your body temp.  Its going to be really hard to do that when you have the chills but you must get that temp. down.  If that doesn't help go to the hospital if its not better in the morning.

I'm sorry you're feeling so utterly awful - with a headache on top of it!

I can't think of a single suggestion for you because I know you already know all the basics that I would mention (water, etc.).  At this point, maybe a call to your doc to see what he/she might be able to do for your headache and fever.

Did your doc diagnose you with an infection (thus the antibiotics)?
