when you asked the question on 5/13/05 some members responded to your question, did you get a chance to read them? it seems that when you ask questions you do not have the time to go back and read the answers. Please check your original post.

I am sorry for sending the same message again.  For some reason I didn't think I asked this question on this board.  I think in reality I am looking for that "easy way out" but I have come to the conclusion that I am going to do the tx.  I go tomorrow to find out what my genotype is.  3 years ago I had a liver biopsy and it showed grade 2 stage 2 but I know deep inside that it is not getting better and I can not wait around much longer for an easy "cure"  Pretty scared and I am hoping my genotype is a 2, but will have to deal what is dealt to me.  Sorry everyone for sending the same question and taking up everyone's time.

we all hoped that we  were geno  2, I prayed hard.  Kind of disheartening when the truth comes.  You do what you have to do.
At stage 2, I would be afraid to wait any longer. Get another biopsy please, just to make sure it did not progress faster in you. and do check that post, many answered and suggested things.

we all wanted the easy way out and thought we had discovered something that the members here missed. It happened to most of us. Who wants to feel like **** for a year or longer? not by choice! check back when you get your news.

You're not alone.  This disease is frightening.  If you decide to go ahead with the treatment (Peg-Interferon and Ribavirin- the only thing out that works), the fear will morph into feisty determination.  I wish you the best,  Dave

I wish there were a easy way out...I tried many of the alternative treatments and found out if you want to get rid of this Virus...TX is the only way...There is some relief found in alternative TX,,,,, BUT no cure..!

Hi Niki,
Sometimes people forget things and that's alright.  And then sometimes people may ask the same things just because they want to feel they have someone to talk to who understands.  That's okay too. Robin

Hi Niki,,,Yeah Cuteus is right,,,lots of info for you on 13th and also the 11th that you must have missed.  I really don't know anything about Dr Ren's program but do know when I first found out I had hep,,,,I checked it out.  Looks like a daily regimen to follow to keep enzymes down but I looked at it this way,,,,,Its not going to cure your hep.  I would get another biopsy to make your decision.  Tx is not that bad to not do at all.  Once you do your time,,,it will be done and over and you will be so glad.

I have cirrhosis and have recently survived an episode of hemorraging aesophagal varicies...
While I understand that the "Allopathic" doctors use advanced science, I am also begining to become aware that the good doctors DO NOT WANT ANY OF THE "alternative herbal etc treatments to work. I have cirrhosis and have just had a huge event with varicies. After changing my diet, and entering a regimen of disciplined use of herbs, I am begining to feel much better. --MUCH BETTER --than two years before i had this episode(march 10 2005). I have read about the "studies" proclaiming that for example "milk thisle doesnt work" the studies were done with *tiny* amounts of milk thissle dosages. Well, lets compare 5$ worth of milk thislle with $2,000 of interferon-rivarin, why dont we.....
I had No Idea this terrible thing was happening to me, i had no idea that I was headed to a train wreck that would traumatize my life and maybe even prvent me from seing my sweet babies growing up. and no I dont have all the answers, I dont have most of the answers actualy. But the question is...why do I feel much better now? the question is what happens if my bloods are much better the second time I have bloods done after the herbs have had time to work (Three months) Why are people so ready to give their lives over to people who stand to make $300,000 from you If you end up requiring a liver transplant?
I am taking now daily=
1.5 grams milk thissle
3.5 grams coriolus versicolor

500 mg artichoke extract
1 gram vitamin c

also I am drinking =

3 glasses of Jarrow "green defense" a day and or 2 glasses pure organic vegetable juice.

plus =tea made from astragalus, organic green tea extact and nettles

I am eating= lots of veggies. (asparagus, artichoke tomatoes, avocados, etc) eggs , cherries fruits. no more= red meat, no bread, ice cream (or any refined sugar) no simple carbs.Cost of all this stuff? about $400 per month.

changing your eating habits to include a healthier supply of nutrients and micronutrients would stand to benefit anyone and thus make people feel better physically and of course, mentally, but you still have a virus in your blood, and your system is still fighting to get rid of it, and you are still going to have cirrhosis and liver disease progression eventually. There is no denying that fact.
The majority that make a financial and emotional investment to treatment are seeking to avoid a transplant. And they do.

It's funny, isn't it? One study says that milk thistle doesn't work, but at doses of maybe 300 to 400 mg a day. Then another study comes out stating that it works so well, that it actually prohibits the metabolism of certain medications... Hmmm, go figure?
The testimonials from people that take the supplements in high enough doses, are worth a million Pharmacutical funded studies..
Of course the supplements are not going to magically eradicate the virus, but they are going to halt progression, and improve MANY functions..
Dr's don't want you taking it, as they don't get any commission in the script..
My DR recommends it heavily, just not during tx.

Ah, a fellow friend of the fungi.  If you're doing Coriolus (Turkeytail) , you definitely know a thing or two.  Great protocol.  And I'm relieved to hear that you're beginning to stabilize and regroup after that frightening episode.  But you know, there is no reason why you can't continue this regime _ while_ you are undergoing conventional treatment, silymarin excepted.  I have never heard of anyone completely clearing the virus with this approach, and that needs to be a number one priority for you now that you're back on your feet.   This bioengineered medicine is heavy duty, but it is doable.  I know lots of people from the Alt Hep-C lists from years ago,  just when the web was morphing into the internet.  We were all sending each other potions and powder and swapping esoteric information, doing homemade pilot studies, and the like.   Some people I've unfortunately lost touch with, but I do know many who ended up committing to combination therapy and have absolutely no regrets.   Sweetie, your situation is urgent and I commend you for these first steps you've taken to recover your own life.  But keep going.  Find yourself a good doctor and hit this virus with everything you've got at your disposal.     And that most definitely includes interferon.

I saw in an earlier post that you are not crazy abouit your dr. I have a friend that goes to the city from LI and she trusts her dr considerably. She has been to Dr Palmer and Bernstein, like I have and trusts hers present one better. I can get that name for you. I was ready to see Dr Douglas Dieterich to try and extend my tx, but did not need to in the end. There is also this center you can check:
The Center for the Study of Hepatitis C
1230 York Avenue . New York, NY 10021
Toll-free: (866) 672-HepC (4372)
I hope you find someone that can make you comfortable.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has a fabulous site for anyone interested in herbs.  This is one of the best I've seen.  Here's a blurb from it:

"This site provides objective information for oncologists and healthcare professionals, including a clinical summary for each agent and details about constituents, adverse effects, interactions, and potential benefits or problems. Evaluations of alternative or unproved cancer therapies, as well as products for sexual dysfunction are included. Our Integrative Medicine Service staff, led by an oncology-trained pharmacist and botanicals expert, manages this web site, which is continually updated as new information becomes available.

A consumer version of each monograph also is available to help you deal with the often confusing claims made for over-the-counter products and regimens. It is important to ask your doctor or another qualified professional about possible interactions with your specific medications before taking any supplements."

Honey,

It is a good site, isn't it?  Here's part of what it says about Colloidal silver (a forum member asked about it eariler in the week):

Colloidal silver consists of silver particles suspended in a liquid. It is often produced by home-made generators. The use of silver medicinals to treat disorders such as epilepsy, gonorrhea, and colds was not uncommon until the mid-20th century. However, silver was replaced by safer therapies in the recent decades. While silver compounds are still used in external preparations as antiseptics, there has been a growing interest in using the collodial form of silver orally as an alternative medicine. Although no human clinical data support the use of oral colloidal silver, it is being promoted as a cure for AIDS, cancer, and diabetes. Silver is not an essential mineral and does not serve any physiological function in the body. It actually denatures proteins by binding to their reactive groups. It can inactivate some enzymes by forming hemisilver sulfides with sulfhydryl groups of the enzymes (1). Silver when taken orally can interact with and reduce the effectiveness of tetracycline, quinolone, and penicillamine. Long term use can cause silver deposition in the skin and mucous membranes leading to an irreversible condition called argyria, characterized by bluish-gray to gray-black pigmentation (2) (3). Other adverse effects include seizures (6) and kidney damage. Pregnant women should not consume colloidal silver as it can cause developmental abnormalities in the fetus (1).

Wow what a gret group of posts! Thank you people!
I did not mean to be scornful of those that put great faith in Allopathic dctors, I know that they (These doctors) saved my life 2 months ago. And it wasnt their fault that I got sick with Hep-c in the first place. Our society gives all the respect to these allopathic docs and Our media and Governmental agencies bolster their credibilities , often when astatistics are *NOT* on Their side.

I appreciate the info about The hepatitis c Foundation and The Other docs you mentioned. My doc is a very "established" establishment type who thinks he is so cool.I am way cooler than him dammit. I am so greatful this fog is lifting somewhat, the mental fog that came with the months right before my episodes. I am able to formulate my ideas better and Embark on courses of action. It must be so bad for someone doing this alone. i thank my wife 1000 times for her love and care of me, even though she has Chronic fatigue, she helps me everyday.
I have an Inguinal hernia and she helps me when it is too painful.
As for the "Bioengeneered meds" how about waitiong for vx950 instead of interferon?

continueing on the herbs, can Herbal treatments and diet -lower-
Viral Load?
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
it seems that herbs and other supplements have helped some lower their viral load. at the same time, studies do not support the notion that a low vL means decreased liver damage. many with low vl have stage 3 damage, and many with vl in the millions have hardly any. please don't think the disease will stop progressing if the vl decreases. it is not supported by statistics.
you have cirrhosis, there is not that much time to wait for trials to be completed on new meds. Interferon is not the main problem, ribavirin and hemolytic anemia is a big part of it, but there are remedies for that.  Are you truly confident that your liver can wait?
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
An Inguinal hernia is the hernia that presents in your groin area. You can do a search on the internet. I read that there was a connection.maybe someone here knows more, but from my understanding they are often connected to hep c-
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
Hi Bio,,,,,what is inguinal hernia if you don't mind my asking?  And why do you say its hep related.  I guess I have never seen a reference between that and hep c.  Sounds like you have a great daily regimen but yes,,,,in your condition,,,defintiely wouldn't hurt to mix a little interferon to that concoction. That way you are living healthy and also killing the virus that is making you so sick....Best Wishes to You!
Blank
Avatar_n_tn

Thanks . No I Am not confident that my liver can wait. I am a genotype 3 but with what suspect is fairly advanced cirrhosis.
(My symptoms so far have been= Distended stomach, Stomach Aches,
the horrible varicies bleed that allmost killed me. For a long time I had been having nose bleeds , -I think the nadanol the doctors prescribed have helped me with that- Itching all over my body, imsomia- which has now subsided since I have had the big diet Change/use of herbals, tiredness and inguinal hernia)
So, no I am not confident of anything and love my family dearly, yet I am not willing to listen to anything a doctor says because of being afraid, *I will make up my own mind as I become more informed*.
My Goal is to Improve my bloods, and yes I want to destroy the virus but  I have to figure out exactly what that means. Now after the fact I get to read that inguinal hernias are related to hep-c but the doctor nor his assistant sought it important to *let me know* that. What I am, an idiot? I asked 10 times that I wanted to be operated for my hernias and no one bothered to mention that the hernia may be related to the hep-c. Isnt that enough to *not* trust the doctor?
yes I will take suggestios for different docs. And what about this VX950 or other "magic bullet" Therapies?

BY THE WAY, I VISITED DR. REN ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. i ATE HIS PILLS AND CHEWED HIS MULCH. Too much of "I have a secret" vibe for me.
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
What does "secret vibe for me mean???
Blank
Avatar_n_tn

Means that the doctor did not Speak much. Kept taling anbout herbs and "his" way like there was one way, as If there were not diff types of patients. Further he seemed to shun publicity.
