HIV via mouth

To cut a very long story short, I got semen in my mouth from a used condom on the floor. I am worried that I am at risk of getting the HIV virus. I am not sure how long the condom had been on the floor.

Can you get infected with HIV by semen from a used condom going in your mouth?
Would your stomach acids kill the virus?
Is the length of time the condom had been on the floor relevant?
Would cuts in the mouth provide a transmission route for the virus?
How long does the virus live outside of the human body and how long does it remain infectious once exposed to oxygen?
Does the virus remain infectious until the body fluids it is in eg. blood or semen dry up?
Would the virus have immediately died once the condom hit the floor?
Can the HIV virus live on inanimate objects eg. mail or does the virus require warmth to live?

<i>finding dad's Playboy? Gone are those innocent days - gone and forgotten.</i>

Oh no. Not forgotten. In fact, if my parents hadn't finally replaced that shag carpet in my old bedroom, Gemms might still be able to unearth a few pearls of excitement from between those lime-green tufts!!

You know there is a time and a place for everything. Why the need for that type of detail is beyond me. I think it only detracts from the genuine folks that are honestly looking for support. The last couple of weeks there have been some real "comments" on this forum. I would suggest everyone just explain things in the most non sexually explicit way possible to get to an answer. I'm no prude by **** some things reach ridiculous. My oldest daughter reads this site just to become more informed and now its starting to sound like xxx. I'm through whining now. Dale

believe it or not, these questions are for real! you should see the one posted by the bishop and Gapeaches. the latter was really explicit. whew! but you can tell it was a bonafide question. the folks that engage in these behaviors don't exhibit the strongest smarts, so it is no surprise that they think hepatitis has something to do with herpes.  one of these days, I got to show you those threads.  It made for some incredibly loud laughs!  the anal one not too long ago was pretty good.
of course, we know not everyone thinks our 'smart' comments are funny.  I think Dale was been protective of his baby, as we all would be.  I wonder how old she is?
there should be a forum for the young ones with hcv + parents, so they can exchange info and ease each others fears.

I have to agree with Cuteus.  My daughter is 17 my son 15...any 16 year old who has access to the internet sees WAY more progressive comments then are on here - or believe it or not practicing some of them theirselves.

What I mean is...while i"d love to pretend my kids dont know or read anything face it...we were all 16 once and well how many of us were "innocent" in any way then?

I thought this was a great thread and it gave me such a huge laugh....personally I am really glad for them and I ENJOY being able to talk with other adults about my disease and sharing jokes and such.  I haven't found anything to be THAT explicit and if this WERE an honest question...which I doubt...still in it's place its nothing outrageous by far.

For a board that talks about safe sex - not practicing anal sex - sex during periods etc....this is hardly anything more to the imagination than THAT.  Yet those are important things to discuss and not meaning to sound mean but perhaps if your 16 year old isn't up to adult conversation you can find her a different forum of her own to read on.

Something she is intersted in - and have this be for you?  I totally get that kids want to read what we do but if it bugs you...perhaps just steer her away and say that you would prefer to have it for yourself or something?

This place is always going to go up and down because it is a collective group of adults - and such things are just what we talk about sometimes.

God remember when the olden days were around and all you had to worry about was a kid finding dad's Playboy?  Gone are those innocent days - gone and forgotten.

Point well taken cuteous. I came off judgemental and I really am not. I feel for anyone that is afraid and dealing with the unknown. I'm not having the best of days today and it came out through the tips of my fingers. I guess if they can't ask it in here it wouldn't be much of a forum would it. Dale

dale, I am not trying to give you grief, but there are quite explicit questions and answers in most forums at Med Help. I just saw one the other day in the urology section that left me awed. How old is your daughter?
Mine is 16, and I think she has read/heard worse in the chats among her peers. I think she knows most every word I did not think she would have known.
this thread is quite mild, compared to some others posted by "strayed" folks, that thought this was a herpes forum.
If she is too young, under 14, maybe you could read ahead, before she does?  It is great that she is interested in getting informed, I don't think mine did much research, just took my explanation and did not ask more. Maybe yours will be a medical professional someday, and this will prepare her for the unexpected.
take care

just a couple of points here to put this all in perspective. 1)i really don't think this post was "real" in the first place. and if it was there was some "real" advice scattered in there 2) we come here for advice and education, for sure. but also we come for comraderie and support. and nothing is more supportive than laughter amongst friends. i thought this was a gas, the most fun here i've had here. with all the scary stuff we hear, lord knows we need some comedic relief. now, i would like to see this thread filled with more theorys about how that slider found it's home. the wilder the better! have a good day tomorrow.

The scenario that was abundantly obvious to me was that our Gemms was at a place where there are several parties going on simultaneously. That day, there was a child

No, I understand fully. As I mentioned, looks like Three Rivers did a minimal 48 trial to get FDA approval for ribsphere. I think most of the cost reduction comes from open competition, combined with the generic manufacturer not needing to recover R&D fees.

Thanks for your info.

another one
http://pubs.acs.org/cen/coverstory/8013/8013genericdrugs.html

now I wonder if the reason they cost less money is the "inactive ingredients" they use or the fact that they use the existing data for the brand name and don't need to spend money on research, so no need to recover costs? it looks like many are in the overseas cheaper labor area anyways, so that can't account for most of the price cost.

of course you know I am not saying that a cheaper version of a med is less effective, yes?
I have to do some real work for my paycheck here, but I found some interesting article on biogenerics and how the companies just used the existing brand name data and applies it to the generic, and only have to do limited research on it...
http://pubs.acs.org/cen/coverstory/8038/8038biogenerics3.html

again, it does not mean cheaper is "cheaper(not as good)"

while lying on the plush carpeted bedroom floor, taking a well-deserved nap ,our 'rather' innocent young heroine rolls over; inadvertantly dislodging spent condom from its precarious perch on the pooches p8cker ,thereby causing the passion pouch to drop 'rather' unceremoniusly into the incredulous slackjawed piehole of inspector Tweadur-"Goodgrief child, however will i raise this topic at medhelp forum?"

hum! I was thinking this thread could end in my archives along with the bishop and gapeaches, but I think it is still too mild in responses. are we so afraid of zapping?

girl/boy slipped on item on the floor making it airbound and it landed in open mouth caused by falling on her/his back. simple, really.

I was told it was safe to eat, but the thing to stay away from was Raw Oysters!
Try a dragon roll. It's a fried shrimp, wrapped in rice and asparagus, with cream cheese I think. These things are great!

This thread was making me think I'm glad I don't eat sushi these days, cause the thought of that slider from the floor could definitely detract from the experience.

Then I wondered, reservations about the subject of this thread not withstanding, 'Why don't I eat sushi'? Isn't that a little excessive. I mean, raw filter feeders, sure. But is there really a warning about those with compromised livers eating sushi?

ohhh man. now that is strange! even for this grissled vetran of sleeze. i guess they say- don't knock it you haven't tried it! but i do have my limits. not many, but on rubber sucking, i will draw the line. and jim- you assume it's a wood floor, it could be a cracked linolium kitchen floor so crumbs could be a factor-a crunch factor. lol. i'm sorry, but, i'll glom onto anything to make me laugh. i'll be waiting and watching for the next one! can we top this??

Eisbein theorizes: Rubber was thrown on the floor... girl/guy picked it up to clean house...contents spilled on hands...girl/guy stuck finger in mouth, let's say to pick teeth with finger nail or something.
-----------------
As good a theory as any but not sure if my first reaction on spilling the used contents of a condom on my hand would be to put my finger in my mouth. But then again, most of us here don't drink so much anymore. LOL. Good luck with your PCR, I think you've got it nailed.

If you google "HIV Oral Sex" you'll find dozens of articles to suggest otherwise. Here's one: http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pubs/faq/faq19.htm

At the same time, mine as well get tested for other STD's such as oral herpes, chlamydia, gonorrehea, and in your case mouth splinters. Sorry, just couldn't resist :) Seriously, talking to your doctor or visiting a STD clinic might be a good next step.

Unprotected oral sex is a known transmission route of HIV at least between semen and mouth, even more so if you have bleeding gums.
To the best of my knowledge no studies exist on mouth to floor transmission :) But seriously, since you don't know how fresh the semen was, why not get tested? My guess is you have nothing to worry about but periodic HIV testing isn't a bad idea anyway. Even though this isn't an HIV forum, since you've already posted here, please report back. We aways like to find out how things work out. BTW none of us are doctors here.
