Hair Loss

Feel bad here...been a while since I checked in.  My treatement was for 6 mo., which I ended last weekend.  Prior to that I was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism.  I've been taking Synthroid for approx. 8 weeks.  My hair is coming out in huge clumps.  Swear...I have maybe 1/2 left.  Is this because of the Synthroid?  Or will it go away when all the drugs are out of my system?  Shallow....but I'm devastated about losing my hair.  Has anyone else had this happen?

I have hypo from treatment as well and take .88 Synthroid a day and my hair has grown back beautifully - I lost about 75/80% during treatment but it came back better than ever.

My hair grew back really dark too and really straight too but it really is growing like a weed!

My hair thinned alot also and didnt stop unitl several months after treatment.  When the hair did stop falling out, it got sooooooo brittle!  When it bagen growing again, it came in darker too.

I bit the bullet, being a long haired woman and got it cut much shorter.  So much more healthier now.

My doc told me that my hair thinning could come and go in cyles while on tx.

My hair is still falling out like crazy. Stopped tx in mid August.  I am a long hair person and cut it so short cause I'm sick of seeing long hairs everywhere.  Such a mess!
Got a wig and it's uncomfortable when its on for more than a couple of hours.  But getting rid of the virus will make this all worthwhile.  Our hair will grow back.

Believe me I know how you all feel...

Week 28 - hair started falling out big time at week 18?  Can't remember exactly.  I just keep cutting it shorter and shorter.  I've lost over 1/3 and still have a long way to go on tx.   I don't think it's shallow to be concerned about hair loss.  Guys seem to almost expect it but women don't usually have excessive hair loss.  It's very concerning to me but I'll get a wig if I have to.  My real concern is beating this virus.  And yes, wacky thyroids can cause more hair loss.  Nygirl experienced thyroid problems and hair loss so she can tell you her experience but doesn't get on the board during the weekends.  I'm thinking about a Dolly Parton wig since big hair is coming back in.

Not everyones hair stop falling out when they finish tx.
Some sx's go one for awhile.  Hypothyroidism can also cause hair loss.
Sometimes an adjustment of thyroid meds is needed.
I'm actually having the same problem as you right now
but the Synthroid and my heart do not get along so I stopped it and I
am waiting to see the endocrinologist at the end of the month.

I really can't answer your question, because I'm only at week 12, but I guess I'm a bit shallow too because I'm wondering about the same issues.  I know there are wigs, so I will deal with it but am curious.  I hope someone answeres your question because I'm worried also about the thyroid issues.  (my tx will be for 48 wks)
Best wishes,
Wilful
