Hair loss

by gizmoesgirl, Feb 19, 2008 09:45PM
I am in week 12 of tx, I have been shedding a large amount of hair in the shower since the beginning of treatment but not enough that I was overly concerned.  However, I just went to get in bed an d noticed on my pillow a large amount of hair on my pillow.  This concerns me as it has never happened before.  I know that hair loss is common during tx but I was hoping that because it had not been falling out alot that I might be ok as I have very thick hair.  Now Im not so sure about that, is it common to loss more hair half way through tx?  This is crazy Im a hair stylist and use great products I thought for sure I could avoid lossing my hair.  Looks like I may have thought wrong this time.

Don't worry, it won't all fall out!  I had thick hair too and lost a lot of hair. What you need to worry about is your shower!  When your hair comes out in the shower, put it in a pile or on the shower wall, otherwise you will have roto-rooter at your house a lot, cleaning your pipes!  Your hair will grow back, you won't lose it all. But if you want to save money, don't let it go down the drain.  Call me a jaded ex tx'er, but reality is reality.

I agree with putting the hair on the shower wall.  I have been doing that since I was about 16 yrs old LOL.

I have lost quite a bit, my hair is very thin and wispy, I am not at all crazy about it either.  I have been on TX for 8 mos and it still comes out but not all of it.

I didn't have the hair loss in the beginning either, I think it kicked in after 12th week.

I lost about 75% of my hair and the rest I had was so broken and fried and stringy from the meds - I started wearing really nice long wigs and that was the only thing I could really do.  They helped me immensly (I work in the beauty biz but on the corporate side) and considering we have models and pro stylists in here all of the time my ego was really beaten up pretty bad...but they did help me feel better.

It's growing back now at a half inch a month on the average for hair to grow it's about six inches long I suppose.

hate that my hair too is coming out in the handfuls. i do use the shower ledge trick and afterwrads clean it up and throw in garabge. and when i brush, and it comes out in handfuls there too. my haris started coming out more noticeably in week 154 or so- and i am now in week 25.  does it stop?  or get bnetter?
sorry bout typing erros, bandages on hands from skin cracks / dryness

Sorry about your hands and dryness!  Yep, the shower and ledge is pretty cool, huh? Hey we have to laugh about this stuff, otherwise cry. Hope you are laughing and thinking about those crazy hair departures!  I does stop, maybe not when you want it to, but it does stop!  No problem about the typos...geez, we have been there. You are okay girl and please post and let us know how you are doing. It is hardest to be alone!
