Hair loss

by cbee, Nov 30, 2004 12:00AM
Hi all,

With all the other awful sides you may think this shallow, but I feel like this is not a place for judgment. So I'm going to ask, has anyone lost their eyebrows during treatment?  Just when I was accepting the fact that I could wear a wig . . .

Thanks.

Like revenire,
My eyebrows and lashes have gotten longer, thicker and larger, but my mustache and hair have thinned out. Interferon causes some real strange sx.
I have been through this twice before and my hair came back just as good if not a little thicker.

my eyelashes were definetely picture perfect, my eyebrows "spockified", at least one of them did. (mr. spock style). I won't talk about the traumatic sight of my long hair residing in the trash bin...

I also lost 60% volume of hair starting around 14th week of Tx.
My eyebrow hair started sticking out straight..
my eyelashes were the envy of all my gal pals...
leg hair stopped growing

and uhhhhhh  the short and curly's  went straight.

I didn't loose eyebrow hair, but you should have your thyroid function checked.. thinning or loss of eyebrows is one of the signs of thyroid malfunction according to  my Doc.

Yeah the wild eyebrows calm down. All my hair , everywhere, is back to normal. Well my head hair did grow back alot curlier than before and for some odd reason a bit darker in color.

I was just telling my friend yesterday that the only thing good about this stuff is my leg hair has quit growing. I have'nt shaved in about a month and I use to every other day. My eyebrows have gone crazy too. I'm just now starting to loose the hair on my head. I've only got till the end of December so maybe I won't have time to loose too much.

I've always has a full head of hair.  About week 20 of tx my hair started thinning.

For the past month I've been using products from Nioxin  http://www.nioxin.com.  Specifically the shampoo, conditioner and treatment.  It's working for me.  My hair stopped falling out and feels thicker.  Also I got a short haircut.

Maybe this will help.  Mike.

My eyebrows got wild & bushy too, they look like Andy Rooney on steroids.

It's bad enough I have to think about and feel some of these stupid side effects, so I try to stay away from the mirror--OMG eyebrows that can actually get tangled and peach fuzz I am tempted to shave!!!  Combing the eyebrows is safe enough, but shaving would only aggrevate the rash the peach fuzz is hiding.  Wonder what new surprise Friday's shot will bring?

Since we are on the subject of hair, I read somewhere that hair dye is bad because it is absorbed through the scalp and processed through the liver.  Anyone else know about this?

I quit coloring in July...it's been interesting to see what color my hair actually is.  Not too bad...it's only about a shade darker than what it was, but now I am showing gray that I had successfully covered for years.  It's blonde, so even the gray is not too noticeable.  I've decided not to cut it until it begins thinning, then I am going to cut all the colored part off...it's a heck of a lot cheaper.

Rev ~ I also have hair all over my back (long and black)...but only when the moon is full.  By the next day, it is gone.  Go figure!

I lost so much hair I had to cut it and it looked so horrible. Now 3 months post treatment, it is growing back like crazy but looks so funny all different lengths. My eyebrows thinned out a little during tx and now are growing back straight and thick.
Your hair will grow back and it will happen sooner than you can imagine.
