Hair

I cut my hair pretty short a couple of weeks ago during an extremely Hot & humid couple of weeks here in Maine. I just felt too tired to deal with it every morning at 5 am.  Also, my hubby and I ride a motorcycle frequently and I was noticing more hair ripping out after trying to detangle it..I got mad at my hair and just had it cut short n' sassy. I think I was secretly trying to be proactive figuring I may start losing it.  Do, or have many of you found that your hair was thinning with these treatments?

I feel like I have so many questions..I apologize if I ask too many.

All though it  seems like the front of my head is dying to to see what the back looks like , it has nothing to do with treatment. Below is from a post by dale_ray yesterday.
Your not alone.

"I went and had my head skinned at the barbershop - every morning when I combed my hair it looked like someone had skinned a cheetah in my sink. I win, I removed the hair before it removed

I had hair to my waist all thru treatment.  I started significant shedding around week 20.  I would line it up on the side of the bath tub when I washed it.  You can't miss it if it is 20" long - LOL!  I started using Mediceuticals Thera Pro shampoo/Thera Pak Conditioner and it worked great.  I just cut my hair off for Locks of Love on Thursday - I have a nice 13" braid I am going to send in next week! Oh, and I love my haircut, I don't think it has been this short since I was in elementary school!

I lost probably 75% or more of my hair.  I felt like one of those guys who part their hair where their ear is, and then comb it over the top of their head.  There was no way to "do" my hair without it looking totally stupid.  So, started living in my Shady Brady (that's a cowboy hat).

Alot of people here on this forum have posted about hair loss being a side effect of tx. Some said that they have lost as much as 50-60 % of what they had.

I am in week 12/24 and it is coming out in gobs every time I wash. Clogs the drain. It usually does that if I get a perm of hair color anyway. So far it isn't noticable though from what it was before tx. I have always had thin hair anyway. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I only did 22 wks. but still ended up with see-through hair and a comb over. It began half-way down my back and now it's around my ears and very thin. But to be truthful,it's kind of cute as I'm getting used to it. I put a non-permanent color in it to make it less see-through and is it ever easy to take care of!! Does anyone know if using Nioxin after treatment does any good to promote the new stuff growing back??

After five injections, I've noticed hair coming out when I try to brush out a tangle or when I comb out my hair after shampooing.  Fortunately, I have alot of hair, but nevertheless, I feel pretty skaggy.  I can't get my hair "woven" as I normally do, and I even hesitate to get it trimmed since I always get a weaving with the trim.  My hairdresser would wonder why no weaving, and if I told her about the HepC, she might freak out.  I read about a woman whose hairdresser, upon learning that she (the client) had HepC, started using thick rubbet gloves to protect herself.  :(

There is so much ignorance out there, but I do understand the fear of the unknown, and that research tells us one thing today, and another thing the next day.  Why should my young hairdresser believe me if I say:  "Don't worry---you won't catch it from me...."

Hello there!

I go in for my results tomorrow for 12 week PCR, I was und at 4 weeks, so it's just a ritual I guess. Although I am a little anxious to how my cbc's are doin. ( I also had the lab check my tsh and liver enzymes.

I hate to say I just had a bad couple of weeks, I broke out in several rashes also with something that was kinda like chiken pox or shingles that was all over arms, chest, back, scalp--even in one of my ear canals--and lymph gland was swollen too.
It really itched BAAAADDDD. I was miserable. Home from work for 4 days.
I went to my pcp and she referred to a derm-- and he was a laser cosmo specialist. but prescribed some cream and aterax.

I'm better now and starting to heal up.

How are you?

I did the same thing with my hair.  I cut it off short when it started coming out.  I'm hoping it will grow back eventually.  lol

I lost about 60% of my hair BUT I also had developed an autoimmune disease from the IFN and it killed off my thyroid = thinning hair is a side of that too.

Of course nobody at work or anything even notices my hair is now straight and thin - they probably think I'm just using a flat iron on it.

It's amazing - nobody but you will care (but if it happens you will) but we all understand what it's like.

Killing the virus is the ONLY thing that matters here and the hair WILL grow back!

ha ha - I used to line them up on the shower wall - of course mine were only about 2" long.  I would sort them into groups of 20 and count them.  When it got to 100+, I stopped.  Usually there would be another 20 or so during the combing. I guess this went on for about 12-20 weeks then stopped.  It went from having a lot of body to totally lifeless and straight.

I had to tell my hairdresser it was the medicine (since it was coming off on her hands when she shampooed) but I didn't tell her what I was treating for. I used Nioxin products all through treatment and thought they helped.  PRobably lost 40%.

For some weird reason, the back of my head started getting body again about the last 2 weeks of tx.  Can't figure that out unless it was the humidity we have been having here lately (very rare).  Still front is flat straight and thin.  Two weeks post tx and I don't see any little hairs popping out yet

Oh yeah a little "warning" on treatment you CAN grow peachfuzz facial hair too = LOL it just gets better and better huh?

I have a billion little tiny fine white hairs that if there were not white I'd look like a werewolf or something!  My tweezers have become my nightly best friend, in fact I've become so obsessed with it that I now look like I have 80s eyebrows too hahahaha.

I'm just a mess it would seem ;)

But also my eyelashes grew like crazy so at least that is SOME good thing besides killing this virus! :)

Yeah, NY -- and what's with the eyebrow hairs.  Falling out on top the head and growing 1+" eyebrows.  Gross.  Had to start cutting them!
