Hand Sanitizers sufficient to kill Hep C virus

Are the hand sanitizers sufficient to kill of the Hepatitis C virus? This are the ones which are 70% alcohol. If they are, I am considering to take it along with me to the barbers shop to disinfect the clippers(machine)? Any suggestion, what else can be used as a subtitution?

Personally I think you should go to Walmart or Target and buy a nice set of Conair clippers - do your hair at home and save all the worry.  Then you will only have to worry that you are infecting yourself!

My son does his own hair all the time it's not difficult and will save you a few dollars and a lot of stress.

Alright, I think I read somewhere here in the forums that even undiluted bleach is not sufficient to kill the virus, I think it dies after 45 minutes or so. Is this true? That means hand sanitizers will be no where close to kill of the virus.Sounds preety much like a super-virus to me. Sorry I am new to this, is there a source where I can read more about disinfecting the virus?

I'm not sure, as my researching was done over a year ago. We have discussed this before and according to doctors, bleach is the best to use.

Manicure tools etc should be autoclaved.

The best way is to avoid utensils which might have blood on them. That's why one should be sure that dentists, tattoo parlors etc are 'clean'. Then again, it is not that easily transmitted. I just don't get manicures and pedicures done anymore, anyway, I'm more meticulous then they are. If I'm too lazy, I bring my own tools.

Once one has had this virus, one really does not want to get it again.

As they say in Indonesia, where I lived for many years. It's better to have an umbrella handy before it rains.

So in the case of using a bleach, do you think a dip is sufficient or does it have to be placed in a bleach solution for a couple of minutes before it is effective in killing the viruses.

I am assuming that hand sanitizers will be completely useless to disinfect.

Nobody really knows Jack - we're only patients not doctors...why don't you put a call in to your doc and ask them, we'd hate to give you the wrong information.

I'd double dip - just to be extra cautious.

Ive read that its a very hard virus to kill,it lives out side the host for weeks and alcohol will not kill it,the virus proberly feeds of it,bleach is ineffective also.i was told by someone in a reputable medical position that it will even live for years in a vile at room temp

) HCV Disinfection with Bleach
In vitro studies have shown that bleach is effective for inactivating many pathogens, including HIV and hepatitis B 44-46. However, relatively little is known about the inactivation of HCV by chemical germicides18. The lack of an in-vitro cultivation system for HCV limits the ability to investigate the efficacy of disinfection. Published information comes mainly from experiments in which the integrity of viral particles, antigens, nucleic acid and/or enzymes is used as a measure of the presence or absence of infectious virus. Such tests may show viral presence, but do not necessarily answer questions of infectivity18. Even polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection methods cannot distinguish between infectious and inactivated virus47.
